Vincent Cassel ("Black Swan," "Mesrine") and Lea Seydoux ("Midnight In Paris," "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol") will be starring in "Beauty and the Beast." The tale has been brought to the big screen more than once, most notably in Jean Cocteau's gorgeous "La Belle et la bête" and of course, to blockbuster acclaim in Disney's recently re-released in 3D animated version. But the ingredient which promises to shake things up is director Christophe Gans. The "Silent Hill" and "Brotherhood of the Wolf" helmer will be behind the camera and while details are scarce -- will it be contempoary? a period setting? -- he's promising something ambitious.
“With this picture, I want to unleash my imagination. Although I will keep to a form of storytelling of this timeless fairy tale that is in keeping with the same pace and characters as the original, I will surprise the audience by creating a completely new visual universe never experienced before and produce images of an unparalleled quality. Every single one of my movies has presented me with a challenge but this one is, by far, the most exciting and rewarding,” he said.
Eskwad and Pathé are producing the picture, which also marks a re-team between Cassel and Gans who previously worked togther on 'Brotherhood,' a quasi-werewolf movie (of sorts). It's a promising project to be sure, and the production is gearing up with an October shoot scheduled.

Cool, curious to see what they come up with.

I hated Brotherhood of the Wolf, but Silent Hill was ok, and the best adaptation of a video game to ever grace the screen.

I haven't see any of Gans' work but I'm familiar with it. Not sure we actually need another adaptation of Beauty and the Beast as we already have arguably the best version of the tale, Cocteau's La Belle et la Bête.

However, I'm interested in this project mainly due to both Seydoux & Cassel attached to it. Also curious to see if it this version will set in a contemporary or period setting, although I hope it'll be the latter.

hm... intruiging... if they do it dark and adult it may be quite enyoyable :)

it looks beautiful!!

is this coming to the US?

yeah, me too.

but this is NOT the planned Disney live action version, right?

I can understand most of the trailer, but I still can't understand what French-Canadians are saying half the time. I should move to Europe.

the only thing I think I understood in French was when Belle said "My name is Belle." lol

The Trailer…wasn't too bad! I even liked the weird cartoon puppy thing.

I am a bit dissapointed because it looks like a modern remake of Jean Cacteau's La Belle at la Bete. It wanted a more original approach, aesthetically but this is good, i will watch it even in theatres. Vincent Cassel ftw.

Essentianly this version is taking a page from American films, in its use of CGI and grand scale.

Thankfully, it's not taking a page from New Zealand films, by turning the story into three separate movies.
