Fantasy Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice returns!

I don’t know about Beetlejuice being less menacing.
He is. And I didn't notice while watching it which is a testament to Keaton and Burton, but he is.

In the original, he's loud, quick to anger, stomps and throws a tantrum now and then, constantly 'anxious', etc. In the first film, he throws Otho down the stairs, drops Charles off a railing, and terrorizes as a snake. He is always scheming.

Here he's kinda...malevolent in comparison. Definitely much calmer.

You’re probably right about throwing tantrums and anger, but he does

send someone to Hell (sure they were evil), he sucks and warps influencer’s faces into their phones (presumably permanently) literally kills Lydia’s boyfriend Rory at the end with a sandworm, and again makes Lydia pregnant with his Beetlejuice baby who attacks her which is about on par with his snake attack. May have also given her the dream about Astrid also giving birth to this baby.

Just back from my second viewing and it played even better for me. It's creative, vibrant, chaotic, fun and surprisingly emotional.

This is how you do a sequel. And honestly, Burton is two for two in that regard. Both this and Batman Returns are smart, well crafted sequels that never feel weighted down in replicating the original.

Can't wait for that glow-in-the-dark 4K release.

Just got out of my screening and it’s an enjoyable, unnecessary and forgettable sequel but I still had fun.

The soundtrack for this is still buzzing around my head, especially "Macarthur Park" and that damned catchy Bee Gees song.

Saw this twice last weekend, once in IMAX opening night and again treating my mother out to see it in Dolby for her birthday. This was a HUGE return to form for Tim Burton and I'm glad he's made a comeback with this. You could tell he cooked. Going back to basics with brighter coloring and what seems to be almost entirely practical effects was a smart move. Well done, sir.

Also, spoiler-free comment: Snape help us all because Dumbledore has hijacked the wedding. If you know, you know.

Finally seeing this tomorrow the whole family (minus my dad) is going to see it cannot wait been avoiding ALL the spoilers ha ha

Great hold...

A shame the international audience (minus the UK/Ireland) didn't turn out for this one strongly, but I think WB knew this and have to be delighted with this potentially hitting close to $300 million domestically.

According to ye ole online inflation calculator, Beetlejuice’s 1988 box office would be worth about $200M today. The sequel has already exceeded this.

Cast was smart. They’ll end up making more in the end.

WB I’m sure is fine offering a bigger budget for a third film now, but I hope Burton keeps it to just these two as he’s said.

Film was originally wanted for MAX at one point.

Burton wanted $147mill budget but was told he could get greenlit for $100mill

Everyone took salary cuts to make it happen.

For once....i have to be on WBs side budget wise. This didn't need anything bigger than $100mill and keeping budgets/salaries down is fair.

Finally saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice yesterday and I loved it! Solid sequel and everyone in the cast brought their A game. This was Tim Burton back to form

Michael Keaton and Catherine O’Hara were the true standouts and ones who most made me laugh.

Bob was the true MVP though!
His death made me sad

Been a fan of the original since I was a kid. Sadly didn't think too much of this one.

It wasn't particularly bad and the cast were certainly game. Burton crafted some real stand out moments but they were few and far between.

Bellucci's character wasn't needed at all. And I didn't like them showing Charles Deetz's face so much. He could have quite easily not been shown considering what the actor did.

6/10.

Yeah, I liked a lot of this one, but didn't completely love it. I'm a Michael Keaton nut and loved seeing him back in the role, but it did feel like he was on a lower energy level than the original (which is to be expected at his age.

Either way, it was cool to revisit all the characters all these years later.
