I really hope Batman isn't making a cameo in the WW movie, because he's already making one in Suicide Squad. At some point, Warner Bros. and DC have to stop using Batman as a crutch for all their other projects. What's the point of having an "extended universe" if it remains so focused on one character? If nothing else, from a business perspective, they risk diluting the brand from overexposure if Batman always shows up in everything.

Compare to the MCU: If Iron Man was the only character who ever showed up for a cameo in other characters' solo franchises, it would send the message that Tony Stark is the only one who really matters, giving off that "Iron Man and Friends" vibe as opposed to the Avengers being a group of equally interesting characters joining forces.

I agree.

But I doubt that Batman would be in World War 1 lol.
 
They could have him appear in the present day. I have no doubt WB/DC would find a way to insert a Batman cameo if they wanted to, up to and including a time travelling Batman. :cwink:
 
I really hope they ease up on pushing Batman, and especially not to the detriment of the other characters in the DCEU, say, the way the DCAU did that.

I love Batman. He's easily my second favorite super hero, but by doing specific stories where he undermines the inherent dignity of the other DC heroes so often... Well, there should be no surprise that they have had a hard time making their other heroes competitive in the market place.
 
I think they had Batman meeting WW in present day (when WW is shown in the modern day world and Batman is the first JL hero she meets) not sure that has changed now. She has to meet him someday and I doubt that Superman is the first hero she meets, before meeting Batman.

Edit: I am unable to understand how they can avoid this and why it needs to be avoided.

Exactly. By making Batman the be-all, end-all, it only makes him further overshadow all the other DC characters; why would anyone get interested in a character they're told is inferior to the all-mighty Bat?

I think Affleck himself actually had it right: he recently referred to the DC Universe at the single-most under-exploited intellectual property in the Warner Bros. stable. True to the name, there's an entire universe out there to be explored that extends far beyond the narrow confines of Gotham City, and I want to see that explored. The more I hear from him, the more glad I am that Affleck seems to be taking a key role in forging the DCEU alongside Snyder. Dude knows comics and is actually pretty intelligent; besides looking like the spitting image of Neal Adams-era Bruce Wayne, it’s hard to recommend a better reason for him playing the most popular character in comics and A (not the) focal point of the DCEU.

What a surprising choice. Thing is, Affleck wouldn’t have made my shortlist, but I could see him being quite a good Bruce Wayne. As for Batman I’m in wait and see mode.

Just been reading through...it's actually very positive.
 
It feels like forever since Affleck was cast, and we're still waiting around. Oh well, early next year that all changes.
 
My biggest issue with his portrayal when he played Daredevil was he was too much like Batman. So funny that came back around as a backhanded compliment. He looks like the animated version in and out of costume, I'm pretty confident he is going to show us something familiar but new.

Yeah, the movie still has to come out haha. I definitely remember that SHH! was for the most part very, very positive while the rest of the internet was still in freak out mode. I don't even remember what I said back then, but I'm sure I can stand behind it as my thoughts on the matter haven't been wrapped up in overly negative or overly positive hyperbole. It's always seemed like a risky/bold choice that could have a big payoff.

Is your point then, "even if it's the wrong and premature, the other guys did it first so we're doing it too"?

I was just on about how that particular comment occurs a lot of times in general among the other knee jerk reactions to stuff like this. Happened with the release of Ledger's Joker photos, Leto's Joker look, Ben Affleck etc...
