Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 1

I will be completely honest. I did not see this coming. This shouldnt have happened. Affleck could have been a great director for the Batman movie. There are few directors I trust more than him to make a Batman movie. And honestly it doesnt bode well for the DCEU, to have so many recent "misfires". First the Flash loses its director, then this one does, and there have been some other BTS decisions that have left me scratching my head. Geoff Johns and John Berg, have to take responsibility for this. They are the ones running ship now, and ever since they have arrived, we are getting a lot of lets just say "controversial" stuff. My faith in the universe is dwindling day by day.

Now does that mean it all has to be doom and gloom? Ofcourse not. Maybe Ben thought he would have not been able to handle the task of starring, directing, writing and producing a movie of this scale and importance. Maybe he was scared of the scale of the movie, as his last big movie was critically panned and was a BO disaster. Maybe there are somethings going on in his personal life, maybe he wants to spend more time with his family. Maybe he had enough with the ****** clickbait media, harassing him over the Batman movie, and didnt want to have such negative attention on him for over 3 years of his life(this certainly played a part, and i will never forgive the bloggers for this). It could be a lot of reasons. The good thing here is he is still starring, writing and producing. I will hold out my judgement on this one and the Flash till they get a director. If they are good picks, I will be excited.

For now, I just have faith in WW, JL and Aquaman. The rest I am not thinking about. WW trailers have been great. I trust Snyder, so JL is in good hands(dont you get near this WB) and I like Wan's work and love Momoa, so Aquaman will be a good time. As far as I'm concerned, thats the DCEU to me. I am not gonna think about the rest, if they come, good, if they dont or are not upto the standards of the first two movies, **** it. I hope JL lives upto MOS and BvS. I need a good JL movie in my life. As it stands I have gotten 2 great movies out of this universe.Hopefully that trend continues with WW, JL and Aquaman. The rest I cant give a **** atm.

He is still tied to DCEU because he is starring, so the 'harassment' won't stop. It may take a lot of pressure off him if he is not directing but if this movie gets made and is bad Ben is still gonna be blamed, I assume more so than whoever they tempt with a lot of money to direct this

I do not understand the huge doom and gloom surrounding the fact Affleck is not directing the Batman. He's still starring in it, co writing it and I can get you he'll be heavily involved in editing it. The project is still happening folks and if you ask me it's smart of Affleck, he would have to direct big action sequences to which he really doesn't have huge experience with and he'd have to do that whilst been in them.

Yup. This just tells me that Affleck actually cares about making a good Batman film. If he doesn't feel like he can do a good job and is man enough to let someone better take the helm I say more power to him.

Like I said in The Batman boards, I'm surprised it took him that long to realize he's trying to do too much on his own and I'm kinda glad he's letting someone else sit in the director's chair.

The "harassment" was when he was promoting his passion project Live By Night, these guys couldnt stop badgering him about the Batman movie and then spinning clickbait articles. Thats how he saw it. He saw the huge amount of attention and negative press it was generating. Directing is a extremely difficult job, and he would have been under tremendous pressure. Atleast if he is not the director, it would put a lot of pressure off him.

"Superhero movies get the level of attention that is nothing like any film I've done. You cast the 14th lead in these movies and the Internet goes crazy," Affleck says. "I understand and embrace that. That’s part of the pressure that comes with doing it. That’s why I am not going to do it unless I really feel confident about it. But when that day comes, should that day come, I’m sure that’s going to be the most pressure, the most stress I have ever experienced in my professional life. There’s no doubt."

He wants to do this movie. He probably just realised he has a bit too much on his plate, and he bit on more than he could chew. If they get a good director soon, this could still end up getting into a good place. But right now, it doesnt look to good for anyone involved.

As long as that someone else is as good as Affleck. There are not many better than him. I always thought he tried to do a bit too much. He should have stuck to the directing and acting. Writing the script was a bit too much. He should have brought along a writer he trusts(like Terrio) and paired him with Johns. Then he could have polished that script.

He tried to do too much. He flew too close to the sun.

Whoever is up next, hopefully it's someone who's worked with Affleck before. That would at least give him a modicum of control.

I wouldnt be surprised if Affleck decides to shadow direct the whole thing.

All those talk shows where he spoke of people asking him bout Batman? Make no mistake, he wanted to talk about that and talk about Batman. He is powerful enough that he can even get journalists not to ask his brother of some things, let alone him. I don't speak of paparazzi or regular people asking him, but any written or taped interviews, that's not harassment at all.

Exactly

In any case I'm anticipating the Internet will only explode more and more about this news. I'm just gonna wait and see.

I really have a feeling they'll get George Miller in. I imagine then no one will be complaining.

I can only judge him from his words and demenour. He seemed pretty pissed off and frustated with the whole thing to me.

Maybe he is just a great actor. Or maybe he was genuinely frustated. I think its the latter.

It backfired, probably once he realized there is just no rescuing this with this studio

What's annoying me is people ignoring the words in his statement, he said that he will be collaborating with a new director and he's stepping down because he wants to give the performance everything. He doesn't feel he can do both directing and starring in this kind of film and give a 100% to both. He can't step out if the lead role but he can step out of the directors chair and stepping down as the director is admirable.

If that was the case, he would stop working with WB. But no, he has a great relationship with WB. He is not completely distancing himself from it. He is still the producer, and that gives him a lot of say on this.

This is what I'm thinking as well. Affleck is a great director, but people are forgetting that he has little experince with vfx and things of that nature. Just putting that out there.

How can he when he is under contract?

With the power and money Affleck has, if he wanted out, he would have been out. He works with WB, because he wants to.

I really don't think so. This is not right after Argo and he is no longer in half as good of a position as he used to be because of his recent bad decisions and flops. If he wanted to add wiggling his way out of a contract with big studio to that he'd be a mad man.

Yeah he said himself, he was overwhelmed with the scale of BvS and learned a lot from Zack. After directing LBN which was a lot bigger in scale than his previous movies, and that not doing well, maybe he is doubting himself and has gotten cold feet. A big blockbuster is a very different beast from what he is used to do. Since he used the word "partner" for the next director, I think he will still have a lot of say on this.

No, he can't just get out. That's part of his frustration, knowing he's locked in for multiple films. I feel bad for the guy...

Just like he couldnt get out of directing the Batman right? Affleck calls the shots here. He signed a 3 picture deal for BvS-JL1-JL2 not for Batman. He is doing the Batman cause he wants to.

The studio probably offered him something in exchange not to drop out all together. I don't believe for a moment he wishes to reprise the role more than he agreed to already.

Lol so now people think he wants out as Batman because he stepped down as director. Jesus go back and read his statement, he says in the statement the film is definitely happening and he wants to give the performance his all. Jeez DCEU haters having a field day with this one, read the statement!

"There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions, Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world."

Well he's hardly going to put out a statement saying he hates the role and wishes he could leave, is he?

I would love DCEU to be good and I had hope it will be. That hope ended when they gave Ayer Gotham Sirens. You can exaggerate as much as you want to, say 'Jesus', use exclamation points - it doesn't change the fact that in regards to DCEU WB does not deserve anyone's defense or hoping for the best.
