Justice League Ben Affleck IS Bruce Wayne/Batman - Part 6

I was referring to his personal turmoil when I mentioned “everything that’s happened since JL” but I see what you’re saying.

The role is very demanding, I’m just not sure he’s up for the commitment anymore, and that’s not a slight against him, it’s tough to do this job over other projects and getting/maintaining a Batman physique.

Ah I see.

I think personal turmoil wise(and I know nothing apart from whats been reported obviously), things have taken a turn for good for Affleck. He did his rehab, and he looks to be in healthy shape now, he's shot another movie, and was even quite active on social media! Handled the tattoo incident with class. Good for him, I say.

So, it's possible that Affleck may stay and get his Batman movie too.

I say this is the best "worst case scenario". Reeves does a prequel series set in the late 90s maybe. He gets his creative freedom and gets to cast a new Batman.

Affleck does the present timeline movies.

I always thought Affleck was only in the role for a chance to be involved with a personal mature story. I dont know if he's gonna stay for a JL2 role or a SS2 cameo. That's not why I want Affleck to stay either, I want him for a proper Batman movie.

Come on Reeves, do the right thing here. Its the first real test for Hamada too, imo.

Leaving all the drama and blogger-fueled-uncertainty aside for a second; with Chris McKay hinting at his Nightwing having white lenses instead of exposed eyes (or that it would be his preference, at least), Deadpool (and Black Panther, to an extend I guess) pulling them off successfully, I feel is more and more likely that in the future we'll see more white lenses than exposed eyes, but would you like that for Batman??

I've come to appreciate being able to see Batman's eyes, since most of the actor's face is covered I find it necessary almost, and in the case of Affleck in particular I loved that you could always see his eyes clearly; of course they had'im in the mecha suit with glowing eyes, and that was awesome.

I think I would love for them to use the white lenses sporadically (i.e: detective mode/scanning), but most of the time I'm gonna go with exposed eyes.

I'm still not sold on them. Deadpool cheats by having the white lenses actually move to mimi real facial expressions, and Black Panther has the lenses be removable so you can see Boseman's eyes during scenes that call for more emotive acting.

I like the idea of them appearing for a Detective Mode or similar function.

I’d love to see them used in a movie but not as a permanent part of the cowl.
I definitely prefer to see his eyes.

Yes, of course, with Deadpool they get away with animating them, and depending on the concept, others can get away with it too, for example Green Lantern, where they can totally have animated white lenses (I have my own concept and design for that :o ); and with Black Panther I noticed that, but can't really remember....ever since his own movie and onto IW he barely has the lenses on, right?? I think I remember being able to see his eyes the whole time in the last one??

I just think for, like, "street level heroes" (gonna say Bat-family, Green Arrow, and even Batman despite being the "big one"), the exposed eyes are important, with a sprinkle of white lenses every now and then.

I wouldn't mind seeing lenses thrown in, but personally I always favour shots of Batman in which his eyes aren't visible or kept to an absolute minimum.

Along the lines of this:-

Particularly during high stake moments or when he's being threatened as it makes him look even more unwavering.

Agreed.

^Exactly like that

Too much light on his face in shots & he ends up looking far less intimidating & in even borderline silly.

Agreed. It's all about the proper lighting for the proper moments.

It can be done both ways I believe, with and without lenses.

Lenses are an absolute must. I'm tired of the outdated notions that white eyes hinder acting ability. If the eyes having no emotions is such huge problem then why not give us a prosthetic cowl with brow and cheek movement? The Fear Toxin version of Batman in Begins used a prosthetic cow for example. Why do we have to keep getting static rubber cowls? Sigh... It's time to evolve. Why hold on to the same arguments that people used against grey Batsuits?

And Spider-Man shows expression through his mask now using Stark Tech. Why can't Batman? Wayne has technology at his disposal. He could make anything he wants

I'd prefer no lenses.
I always assumed the comics did white blocks for his eyes because it was easier to draw, the way Superman sometimes just has little black dots for eyes.

Wouldn't mind something he uses every now and then, as a computer screen or for night vision. Have them flip down like in TDK or goggles like in JL, but have normal eyes most of the time.

I think it really does help the actor emote when we can see their eyes. I'm pretty sure that the reason they had the mech suit helmet damaged in BVS.

Illustrated Batman without white lenses looks kind of silly

Depends on the artist. Lee Bermejo and Alex Ross draw him without lenses and it looks great.

Most artist draw white eyes because it's the convention / easier, but that doesn't mean no lenses can't work.

Because that sounds like a needlessly complicated solution to a problem that isn't that much of a problem.

I actually want a prosthetic cowl that has brow and cheek movement, though. Regardless of whether we get the eyes
I'm tired of stiff rubber cowls with static "angry" looking expression.

If you played Batman Arkham then you'll see a realistic Batman with brow and cheek movement and it looks awesome. It not only gives the actor more range as well as being comic accurate but it also makes Batman look more organic and less like a "man in a suit".

Also, I don't understand why they keep giving us panda eye makeup when they can just glue the edges of the cowl around the eye areas. And if that's too uncomfortable then just use minor CG enhancements.

Reading this, I just pictured in my head a glorious shot of Batman facing a criminal and his anger increases as we see it expressed through his cowl starting to form a frown. Basically, we'd know at this point that the bad guy messed up and is about to get his butt handed to him.

Also, I've said this before but semi-transparent lenses could do the work. A 3M type material where it reflects when the light hits them while on close-ups we'd see his eyes.

I haven't seen a Batman performance suffer from the absence of comic-accurate lenses. They'd hinder it, if anything. Actors and directors are probably happier without them, as they give the actor the chance to emote and shine a little more. In the Spidey films they're always looking for excuses to do scenes sans mask.

LeVar Burton used to talk about how terrible the visor prop he had to wear on Star Trek was, because it prevented him from being able to use his eyes to emote. I imagine it's the same deal here.

Prosthetic cowl solves that problem.

Imagine this but with the actors mouth. Imagine a cowl that looked this organic with this much emotive facial range.

Also Spider-Man in Homecoming kept his mask on for a pretty long time. Only time it came off was during the final battle with Vulture. Up until then, the mask stayed on and didn't need to come off because of the expressive eyes
