Movies being announced as being in development before they're concretely greenlit is pretty common in Hollywood, as is announcing movies with attached actors, even if the script isn't done or there's no director. Especially big name actors, some of which book film projects years in advance.

I hardly think that's the problem the DCEU has, following Hollywood/business conventions in that regard.

But it's the DCEU, so every negative is magnified 10 fold.

I can't believe that Aquaman is the most promising DC movie as of right now

James Cameron (or 'JC' as we industry people call him) would be proud

Ooof. Just read that Live By Night has had the largest cinema screen drop in movie history. Down 94%.

what about it

So you're pretty confident that WW and JL are going to be critical and financial failures? I get that WB and the DCCU, particularly Snyder, have not earned a lot of good will with you (and others), but I can't say there's anything concrete yet pointing to those films performing poorly with audiences and the box office.

I didn't say they'd be financial failures

Just an observation from what I can gather in terms of news and recent developments

and hey, I want Zack to direct Le Batman so that has to mean something

I don't know how you can make any such observations regarding WW and JL. How does Affleck's decision to relinquish the director's chair after a difficult year for him professionally and personally somehow equate to the failure of WW and JL? How does a changing slate of films and the loss of a director for The Flash affect the quality and success of WW and JL? I understand that there are questions about the production and creative process, but what concrete evidence can we observe to draw conclusions like yours?

That's never a bad thing. WB/DC needs their other properties and characters in their vault to be promising and deliver. That can only mean good things ahead. And Wonder Woman has a damn good chance at succeeding tenfold.

I was going off of this http://www.screengeek.net/2017/01/16/rumor-wonder-woman-justice-league-said-to-be-disasters/

but you're right I guess. I'm just not terrible excited for WW or JL, perhaps I should have prefaced that in my post about aquaman being the most promising, because thats just my opinion and not that of everyone else.

I'd say Aquaman is more promising because it's farther out. We've been told changes were made to Justice League after the reception to BVS and it's possible rewrites or other changes were made to Wonder Woman as well (how close to shooting was it when BVS dropped?) While it's good they want to address what people didn't like about BVS, making hasty changes close to or during filming can have bad results (see: Suicide Squad or Thor: The Dark World).

With Aquaman the movie was far enough from what happened that if they wanted to change direction or do something less like BVS, it can be done organically without completely compromising the film. I'd say it's the true test as to whether or not Johns has had an impact on the movies and if the DCEU can be salvaged.

That's one of my concerns. JL was already touted as being a lighter affair before BvS was even released, but because of the overreaction, if they turn this into a campy Marvel Avengers film, then I don't know what to say....

yeah, Aquaman is sure to be unlike anything we've seen in the genre before. And with Wan at the Helm, I'm pretty sure we are looking at a solid film and I don't say that lightly, I've been very hard on the DCEU as of late.

Oh look, someone else who doesn't know what "campy" is.
There's no way Snyder won't add any of his trademark "cinematic flourishes" as Geoff Johns put it. They've made adjustments but there's no way it'll be as drastically different as some of you fear. They didn't have the time.

Yup. "Help me James Wan, you're my only hope!"

The problem is that what do expect WB to do? If WB says nothing about BvS and SS' reception and continue on then they will get ****ted on by fans. If WB says they're working on fixing the quality of their movies then they get ****ted on by fans for not following a plan.

That's how things work, if your original plan doesn't work then odds are you're going to work on what did and didn't work. You're not going to keep trucking on with your fingers in your ears and say "Well they don't understand what i'm doing" unless you really don't give af. All you can do is hope you see their efforts and change for the better in the following films

In the immediate aftermath of BvS people on this very board were saying "WB should be out in front of this telling us what they plan to change and how they plan to fix it!". Then they did and the same fans (literally the same ones not a generalization) talked about them admitting they needed to fix things and that deconstruction was worng and they needed to have more hope proved they had no plan and had no idea what they were doing.

WB needs to just shut up and let the dust settle. Let WW and JL come out and then worry about the rest. Hyper focus on those two movies...screw the slate. If someone has an idea for a movie and it works sign them up and get it going but other than that just relax for a bit.
