Can I ask a question?
Is it possible that all this talk of Affleck walking away is just his way of telling the studio to back the **** off for a minute? Maybe the fact that he's no longer directing The Batman (and therefore no longer shouldering the weight of having to "save" the DCEU) means he'll be more receptive to sticking around in an acting capacity. It sounds like the studio was asking more from him than what he initially signed up for, and he simply did not want this much responsibility. Now that a new director is on board, and he has time to gather himself and take care of personal matters, perhaps we end up hearing less noise about him walking away.
I really do hope that Affleck isn't the kind of filmmaker who lets critics dictate his decision-making, otherwise that would be incredibly disappointing. The man himself has acknowledged that fans have had nothing but kind things to say to him, and even the most vocal BvS critics have said he was one of the bright spots in that film. He loves the character, and his son loves that his dad is Batman. On top of all of that, you have to think he is being more than fairly compensated for playing the part. Really, outside of the critics and the excessive workload, I'm not exactly sure what the problem is. One of those issues has been resolved. The other really shouldn't be much of a factor.
