Iron Man 3 Ben Kingsley as Iron Man 3 Villain

As an Iron Man fan, I never cared for Extremis. Still, it's great to see Ben get his shot. He WAS cast as the Vulture in Spider-Man 3 before Sony made Raimi jam Venom in to the story. So, that may have left this door open. All things work out in the end, just like when Tom Cruise left the role and RDJ got to be Tony Stark!!!

Was Tom Cruise ever really considered? Anyway great news about Ben. This will bring a lot of class to IM3

Yeah, this is good news. Ben is a very solid actor and should make for an interesting villain.

He was attached to the project for a while but ultimately left to do another movie (don't know which one).

I'm hopeful overall that the Extremis storyline could be adapted well for IM3, but from what little I did read of Extremis I couldn't really get on board with it's villain Mallen. He just seemed like some crackpot hillbilly. The bits I read, all he did was kill some random girl because she believed something else and it showed his motivation stemming from his parents being shot by the authorities when he was a kid (though I don't recall the details exactly, I don't remember having much sympathy for their characters either).

Is Mallen important to the story overall or is it more about Tony Stark's character art through his ordeal that's important with Extremis? I never really kept up with it at the time.

Though I guess I'm just a bit worried that if IM3 follows Extremis that closely we may not have a compelling villain.

Yeah, Mallen is not the highlight of the actually story, well to me. He was just cannon fodder in the long run.

Very un-creative. Who's next? Ralpha Fiennes?

As long as he is not the Mandarin, I'll be happy. I want my Mandarin to be a martial arts bad ass not some old guy who hasn't been in a good movie for close to 20 years.

Agreed. The Mandarin should have a heavy intimidating masculinity to him, he shouldn't be a decrepit nerd.

I don't even care at this point if it's not The Mandarin. Ben. Effing. Kingsley.

So he won't be the main villain, correct?

because Hugo wasn't great???

Yes. Because Mandarin is more about martial arts and not magic.

I don't care. I think Sir Ben Kingsley is a PHENOMONAL choice for the villain in IM3, Mandarin or not...... though its likely Mandarin.

I don't see why it wouldn't be Mandarin considering this is likely RDJ's last solo IM movie.

From Shutter Island to Prince of Persia to Hugo to IM3.

Welcome back, Benny :yay:

Bloodrayne is far behind you now.

SIR Ben Kingsley has been one of the most consistant actors ever to grace the big screen.

Hugo, House of Sand and Fog, Lucky Number Slevin, Transsiberian, War Inc. All movies made great by Kingsley and released in the last 10 years.

You're scope of "good movies" needs to stretch beyond cartoons and superhero flicks before you start ripping on a true talent and a film icon.

He was awesome in Sexy Beast! I didn't include on my list because it was older than my "10 year" theme. But yeah, Oscar nominated performance there and nominated in House of Sand and Fog only 2 years later.

Ben Kingsley was badass in Sexy Beast and Hugo was pretty good. As long as he puts in a good performance and not one of his sleep through the roles for cash performances like Bloodrayne and Thunderbirds then fine.

Would rather not see Kingsley as Mandarin.

I actually liked the way they did it in Armored Adventures, making Mallen a former SHIELD agent with a screw loose instead of just a run-of-the-mill terrorist.
