I'm still upset the Fukunaga/Mendelsohn It project fell through, but if Mendelsohn delivers a great villain here that should help to alleviate that blow.

I thought he was walking on water too, but it turns out it's just shallow. Someone pointed out to me that there are dead stormtroopers lying on the ground in the water.

Ben Mendelsohn’s Director Orson Krennic is the primarily villain of the film, who we now know is the leader of the Deathtroopers previously seen in the teaser trailer. The outlet reveals that he’s hoping to squash the Rebels with his soldiers to gain favor with the Emperor, all while “avoiding the wrath” of Darth Vader. “The bad guy is a lot more terrifying when he’s really smart, and really effective,” says executive producer John Knoll. “There is a lot of palace intrigue going on in the Empire, with people conspiring to move up the ranks and sabotaging each other. There’s not a lot of loyalty there.”

So the Death Troopers are his specific bodyguards and enforcers.

Really like the look of his shuttle, and yeah the emphasis on extreme geometric shapes, contrasted against the perfect sphere of the Death Star works great.
Brilliant concept and design.

Only thing storywise, why is this guy getting his own shuttle (and in black!) while the Emperor and Vader share the more generic Imperial shuttle?
I guess there is some major egos at work here.
But visually it incredibly well ties to the cold architecture of the Death Star, thematically placing him as "master builder".
