The Hollywood Reporter posted word this morning about two dueling projects centered around the infamous Bermuda Triangle set up at both Skydance Productions (Terminator Genisys) and Universal Pictures.
The Skydance project is being penned by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard (The Sorcerers Apprentice, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), and will revolve around the area of the North Atlantic Ocean between Florida, Puerto Rico and Bermuda where numerous aircraft and ships have mysteriously vanished. The waters, sometimes referred to the Devils Triangle, have been a hotspot for conspiracy theorists who attribute these strange disappearances to anything from ghosts to extraterrestrial activity.
Meanwhile, Universal has tapped Ouija screenwriters Juliet Snowden and Stiles White to rewrite an existing script penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Spider-Man 2), which will be produced by Scott Stuber and Dylan Clark for Bluegrass Films. The hiring of Snowden and White may indicate a more low-budget approach to the material, since they were brought in to serve a similar function of simplifying Ouija from a $100 million dollar project to a $5 million dollar one that proved quite profitable for the studio.
Whatever the approach of either of these projects, the article fails to mention a third script by Dan Kunka also titled The Bermuda Triangle which Warner Bros. purchased back in 2013 for producers Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Adam Kolbrenner to develop as a potential action franchise. Chunk is also currently writing Space Invaders for Warner Bros.
