Watching The Cleveland Show the other night, and discovering that Nia Long had been replaced by Reagan Gomez as the voice of Roberta got me thinking about this topic. Off the top of my head, Mila Kunis replacing Lacey Chabert as Meg Griffin on Family Guy (ironically, the parent program for The Cleveland Show) is one instance, where I thought that the recast voice was better/an improvement over the original. I don't want to bring into the discussion recasts that here deemed necessary due to the death of an actor (e.g. any voice actor who suceeded Mel Blanc's Looney Tunes roles).

I liked George Newbern as Superman more than Tim Daly.

Everyone in The Spectacular Spider-Man is better than their 90's counterparts.

David Kaye was better as Prof. X in X-Men Evolution than in the 90's toon.

I also prefer David Kaye's Megatron in Beast Wars over Frank Welker's in G1. Welker's sounds like a chain smoker.

Worst- Pokemon's original voice actors with new ones

Best- Probably Christopher daniel barnes from the 90's Spiderman TAS to "Spectacular Spider-man"

Sanji in the 4kids dubbing of One Piece was the worse.

Man, most of those voices in One Piece were God awful. What the hell were they doing?

I didn't like the change from Wolverine from 90s TAS to Evolution. I got used it over a while but when I first heard it...yeesh. It didn't help that the 90s Wolverine is the voice I always imagine with Wolverine too.

I agree that Evolution's Professor X VA was an improvement though.

Even though it was only for one or two episodes I really dislike the voice recast for Mod Flanders. Probably just because I was so used to the original voice actor.

I don't think anyone can complain about the fact that Matthew Lillard took over for Casey Kasem.

You mean he's voiced Shaggy outside of playing the character in the movies?

Yeah, the Pokemon voice actors felt like a definite downgrade but the new writers just made it unbearable. The translations were never great but at least they used to feel natural. Now they just tack a bunch of sentences together, regardless of how corny they sound, because they're the proper length. It went from being a kids' show to a preschool show.

Since the character is hardly integral to the episodes I barely noticed the change.

But just wanted to mention the DIC produced G.I.Joe episodes even though they did bring back Chris Latta as Cobra Commander most of the other voice actors had been replaced.

One of the worst recasts I remember seeing was the guy that replaced Gambit in the final season of fox's X-men. I hear the original guy when I read comics to this day but that replacement guy was AWWWFUL. I also wasn't a big fan when WB recast BAne and Penguin for their Mystery of the Batwoman flick.

AGREED!. Gambit's voice in Wolverine and the X-men is horrendous as well.

2 of my favorite voices are the original english voice of Vegeta ( not the 2nd one where it sounds like the guy is taking a dump) and Wolverine's in TAS.

Bakugan Battle Brawlers.

I couldn't believe what I had stumbled across at 7 pm on Cartoon Network.

Yeah, I have no idea why Chris Potter was replaced by Tony Daniels in the last few episodes of the '90s X-Men series. From what I can recall, Daniels made Gambit sound like some Mexican dude, instead of sauve Cajin.

Mako as Splinter in TMNT

The Nostalgia Critic got in trouble for criticizing Mako's performance!

replacing Mark Hamill with Kevin Michael Richardson in 'the batman'. while i like KMR in other roles, he was NOT joker to me, Mark was. and ditto for anybody other than Kevin playing batman but I DO like Diedrich Bader's version in Batman BATB :awesome:.

Yeah. The VAs who have done Batman since haven't been horrible. But Conroy is just perfect. It'd be like someone besides James Earl Jones doing Darth Vader. They could be very good, but they're not JEJ.
