First, thanks for the warm welcome! Secondly, this is a revelation for me!!! I just watched my copy of the DVD right now, and yeah, Wallow WAS killed by a fire blast. Makes forgive the scene a little bit more (just a wee bit. hehe.) Can't blame myself though for thinking what I thought since it was pretty difficult to spot GR's hands with the all the goings on and all. Wallow was even partially blocking GR, so all you saw was one of GR's hands. Also, just when Wallow catches on fire, his right hand is right in front of GR's head, looking as if he touched it.
I'm just pretty amused at this "new turn of events" (well, it is for me at least
t: ). But still, I'm sure there were better ways of portraying that scene. A specific detail such as a fire blast from the hands should be clearly reperesented as it is the whole point of the scene. Perhaps shoot the scene the other way around with the cam on GR's back, facing Wallow. That would've been clearer (lol! director wannabe).
This for me just further more enforces my stance on the poor directing job MSJ did. I probably even think that he did a better job in directing Daredevil cuz at least the things the audience needed to know, were clearly presented. MSJ also seemed to use a lot of different camera angles and editing in DD's action scenes (Still though, I must admit DD wasn't that great). In GR, most of his shots (especially in the fight scenes) were single shots all the way through, as if there was just one camera on the set filming. And to think GR was supposed to be an action film.
Another scene that I think looked amateurish was when GR caught Grissel in his chain. The chain wraps around his arm, he swings his chain over his head once, then catches the bad guy. Should've been a pretty cool scene I think especially that its the first time we see GR use his weapon. Instead, the camera's just hanging from above and filmed the whole scene straight. Little intricacies like the chain wrapping around GR's arm before it caught Grissel are little cool things that were easily missed unless you took a closer look. And if you did, you'd definitely miss something else in the scene. MSJ just didn't seem to be too good with identifying what his audience really needed to see and understand. Happened with Grissel, happened with Wallow.
Ok... that was pretty long. hehe. Just my two cents. Quite passionate on how I think they could've improved the film cuz I REALLY wanted this to be a great film. Glad it did well in the box office to merit a sequel. At least they could improve on it this time.
