What are everyones favorite comic book writers that have worked on Batman comics and graphic novels???

My favorites are Denis O'neill, Frank Miller, Judd Winick, Paul Dini, Peter Tomasi & Grant Morrison. I guess why i'm not including Alan Moore while The Killing Joke is pretty damn awesome, is because of what i view him as nowdays.

So yeah i like Miller's Batman. He's sociopathic god damn Batman to me is an interesting concept and it's his universe that doesn't meddle with the canon one, so yeah why not?

Judd Winick and Tomasi both have written great stories with the whole Batfamily. Paul Dini not only wrote alot of great stuff on BTAS cartoon but he has reinvented villains and but a whole new great spin on them. Not to mention his current comic book "Streets of Gotham" is really great.

Denis O'Neill and Neal Adams in 70s were the sex machines. They did alot of great things for the Batman universe and the character as a whole and they didn't even need to make it über grim dark or anything!

Last but not least. I love Morrison. I've loved him since his New X-men comics i read when i was twelve or so. =p The guy just has such an interesting way to tell a story and he always has +A class artists with him, i can't say no to that!

I dislike the uber grim/dark/psychotic tone that Frank Miller started in TDKR. I prefer the 1970's version of Batman started by Dennis O' Neil, which was neither campy and neither was it too psychotic, just the perfect tone.

My personal favourites:

- Denis O'Neill
- Paul Dini
- Grant Morrisson
- Judd Winnick
- Alan Grant
- Doug Moench
- Jeph Loeb
- Greg Rucka

Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker, and Devin Grayson were my favorites. They got the deepest into the character and his world in my mind.

Brian Azzarello
Frank Miller
Greg Rucka & Ed Brubaker
Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant and Doug Moench

Since I'm mostly more of an artist aficionado I guess when it comes to writers it would be

Denny O'Neil
Gerry Conway
Mike W. Barr
Alan Grant
Jim Wagner
Jim Starlin

Bill Finger - He started it...
Denny O'Neil - "The Joker's Five-Way Revenge" is my favorite single issue.
Steve Engelhart - A little more toward the "fantastic", but still awesome.
Gerry Conway - Loved his early run with Killer Croc.
Doug Moench - Had some crap, but I loved his Black Mask, Knightfall run.
Mike W. Barr - His Detective Comics run was fantastic.
Jim Starlin - Wrote some great stories without the classic villains.
Marv Wolfman - Really enjoyed his Batman 400s stories.
Alan Grant - Grant + Breyfogle = GOLD.
Frank Miller - Year One baby.
Jeph Loeb - Long Holloween, Dark Victory, and Hush.

Bill Finger (his 1939/1940 writing was great and really started it, the writing after that time-frame from him was too light).

Dennis 'O Neil (his collaborations with inker Dick Giordano and pencillers Neal Adams or Irv Novick really brought Batman back to his dark roots, they were also great stories. First one he wrote was Detective Comics #395).

Frank Robbins (The first writer that attempted to bring Batman back to his dark roots in late 1968/1969, he put out great serious detective stories. Also, he is co-created Man-Bat along with Neal Adams and he sent off Dick Grayson to college in Batman #217. Once Dennis 'O Neil came, the writing would alternate between Frank Robbins and 'O Neil throughout the 70's).

Jeph Loeb

Steve Englehart

Bill Finger
Gardner Fox
Denny O'Neil
Frank Robbins
Len Wein
Steve Englehart
Gerry Conway
Frank Miller
Doug Moench

Aside from his 1939 writing on Detective Comics and creating the utility belt.

In his mid-60's run, he established that Riddler has OCD.

And I forgot to add, Gardner Fox came up with the idea of Scarecrow using fear toxin to cause hallucinations before that the character used shoot people in the arm to induce fear.

Gardner Fox, the second Batman writer ever, also created the Batarang, the gas pellets, the Batgyro which inspired the Batplane and Batcopter, Batman's first reappearing foe Dr. Death, Batman's first supernatural foes the vampires The Monk and Dala. Cool and influential Batman stuff.
