There are shows that replaced a few main characters and in most cases (ie. Happy Days) the quality of the show goes down. But which shows had the best replacement of main characters and continued to be hit shows after the changes?

I would say Cheers.

Cheers did not really miss a step when Diane and The Coach got replaced. In fact it got better.

Also Married with Children going from

Even though Ted McGinley did a horrible job replacing Ron Howard on Happy Days, he made up for it on Married.

Oh, Jefferson D'arcy, I consider him one of the top sitcom sidekicks of all-time!

How about Whitley on A Different World? She was pretty much the "villain" of the show, the first season, then becomes the star when Lisa Bonet left. I just always find that funny, 'cause the spin-off seemed created for the sole purpose of keeping Lisa Bonet out of Cosby's hair, and now most people forget it was even her show to begin with!

the prisoner. when he switched bodies... that was awesome. everyone freaked out, but the original actor was the writer/director so obviously he knew what he was doing.

I had forgotten that Lisa was on A Different World.

LOL :o

JK I know but I just had to say it...

Jefferson was the absolute man. Of course, that dates back to Revenge of the Nerds.

Also, I'd say replacing Doyle with Wesley on Angel turned out pretty damn good.
