Right, we had a best of the summer thread, which, after some strong competition from The Wolverine, Man Of Steel ended up winning by a few votes, but now Thor 2 is out, we can finally vote for the best comic book movie of the year and MOS may have more competition this time, so please, vote away.

I am pretty sure MOS is still my personal best, but I want to see Thor 2 again before voting.

I'm not voting 'til I see Thor 2 either, but damned if this wasn't a lackluster year for CBM's. My favorite was and will probably end up being MoS, but none of them remotely blew me away. I'm not expecting Thor to, either.

We've had several solid CBM's this year, none of them may be Avenger or Dark Knight caliber, but don't consider a year of solid CBM's "lack luster"

As comic book movie fans we've been spoiled, a few years ago we would've WISHED for a year like this.

I can see were they are coming from though, non of the CBM's this year have been amazing, and we usually get at least one a year that is, last year and 2008 were superb for CBM's, and all the ones this year had the potential to be amazing. For me personally, MOS got the closest to that, but it most likely wouldnt get in my top 10 CBM's and we usually have at least 1 CBM a year that does that, for me anyway.

Like on the last poll, I voted Kick-Ass 2, the treatment it got by critics was a joke, it was a good sequel which retained a lot of the heart of the 1st movie without losing much from Vaughn not directing either. It also had great action and performances.

It impressed me the most and I had the most fun watching it as well.

^I will say KA2 is the most under-rated of the year, the critics were way off with that one, I just hope it made enough for a KA3 to be made.

We didn't get any in 2009, 2007, or 2006 either, oh and this year is by FAR a better CB year than those years.

What about 2010? The only CBM that I remember being released in that year is Iron Man 2 and that movie wasn't great at all.

I've posted comparisons between MOS and TDW in the MOS thread, so I won't spend too much time on that.

Personally, I'm an MOS fan and that's my choice. Best action, best character story, and best villain.

After that I'd go with

2. Thor TDW = a very enjoyable watch, great visuals, good action and solid
performances all around, with Hiddleston being great as Loki ( romance plot a bit lame though) . It's fun, had a little bit of a Star Wars feel to it, like I said, probably won't rock your world, but great fun. Anyone who likes Thor will love it.

then a long way down

3. The Wolverine..... had some good moments from the source material, but
otherwise just a slash fest and a few good stunts. And sadly, James Howlett
is still pretty much the same sorry sonova***** at the end that he was at the start.

and then a lot further down.

4. Iron Man 3 : not great. It's like Shane Black thought, wow if Iron Man 1 was great and had 2 or 3 suits of armour, then if I put 50 of them in IM 3 it'll be that much better. Take that and the "twist" which probably pissed off every serious IM fan, as well as the fact that the whole plot was neatly wrapped up in a one minute montage, and that IM was saved by his secretary made this film occasionally amusing, but generally painful to watch. Yuck.

Haven't seen RIPD (can't take Ryan Reynolds as a superhero after GL), Red 2, or Kick ass 2. GI Joe retaliation was fun, but rubbish.

Truth be told, no comic book movie really wowed me this year. But I was entertained enough by some of the big films, and left sorely disappointed by one in particular.

So here be my rankings, plus my thoughts on each:

THOR THE DARK WORLD - I'll admit, I really like how much more epic in feel this film is compared to it's predecessor. I just wish it had a story with more heart, which was what Kenneth Branagh brought in spades to the first film. Malekith as a villain was weak, and considering the actor they got to play him (Christopher Eccleston), it seems like a wasted effort. Still, the rest of the cast is pretty stellar (Hemsworth and Hiddleston in particular), the action is spectacular, and it's very very funny. But to the last point, the comedy sometimes threatens to overwhelm the drama. C'mon Marvel, don't tip the balance between funny and serious, else you risk in really making your films a joke. Less slapstick, more epic. (7/10)

THE WOLVERINE - Now this is the Wolverine movie I've always wanted. None of those stupid cameos by other mutants, the focus is solely on Logan and his little trip to the Land of the Rising Sun. The Japanese setting really adds to the film, as do the actors, particularly Rila Fukushima as Yukio. Hugh as Logan is always good, and I love how the action lets him cut loose to show what a killing machine Wolverine truly is. This would have been my comic book film of the year, had it not been for that awful third act ([blackout]Robot Silver Samurai[/blackout]). Still, a solid effort that goes a long way in getting rid of the foul taste that was Origins. [blackout]And the mid credit sequence has me looking forward to Days of Future Past[/blackout]. (7/10)

IRON MAN 3 - Unlike most people, [blackout]I don't hate the reveal of the Mandarin[/blackout]. Nor do I dislike the cast, who are excellent (Downey is brilliant as usual, and [blackout]Guy Pearce is a great antagonist[/blackout]). The action is still solid, and the way they rewrote the Extremis storyline was pretty clever. So why do I not rate this film highly? Because it suffers from the same problem which afflicted Thor the Dark World, that of the balance between comedy and drama. Except here, the scales are tipped more in favor of the comedy. C'mon Marvel, get your act together! Less slapstick, more epic! (7/10)

MAN OF STEEL - Big disappointment. Whose bright idea was it to hire Zack Snyder to direct? The guy has never impressed me and at times comes off as a Michael Bay clone. A shame, because this film does have a good cast, I truly believe Henry Cavill can become a good Superman with the right script and director. And on that point, I'd like to ask, if this is a Superman film, why must it borrow so much of the dark and depressing mood of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy? C'mon DC/Warner! Superman and Batman are totally different characters, and each of them requires a different tone to adapt on the big screen! At least Hans Zimmer's score is great, but if there's one other consolation I can give this film is that at least it's better than Green Lantern. (5/10)

Well in 2006 we got Superman Returns which I loved personally, and still do, and in 2007 we got the 1st Transformers movie which I think is still a great blockbuster and by far the best of that franchise to this day. 2009 I will give you though, cant remember any good CBM's that year. Only ones I remember were TF 2 and Wolverine Origins and both were pretty poor, same with G.I. Joe: TROC. They were all enjoyable as dumb fun, but not very good movies.

EDIT: Wait, wasnt Watchmen in 2009? I think it was and if so then I take that year away as well as I personally loved it, especially the DC.

So yep, we get at least one a year which a lot of people seem to love.

Well there was the first Kick-Ass

Awesome and very under-rated movie, still one of the best CBM's out there for me.

I wanted to say Blue is the Warmest Color but that's not a choice so it's a tie between Wolverine and Man of Steel.

I thoroughly enjoyed Thor 2, but I had to give my vote to Man of Steel...

We got V For Vendetta in 2006, which, in my opinion, is one of the best CBMs.

Man of Steel 9/10
The Wolverine 8/10
Thor: The Dark World 8/10
Iron Man 3 7.5/10

A great year for superhero films imo. I'm a little sad it seems to have split more opinions than past years.

1. Man of Steel
2. Man of Uru
3. Man of Iron
4. Man of Adamantium

Agreed. While I can understand it not being everyones taste in subject matter, Its a near perfect film for what it wants to be. And actually stronger then the comic.

1. The Wolverine - 8.5/10
2. Man of Steel - 8.5/10
3. Thor The Dark World - 7/10
4. Iron Man 3 - 6/10

Voted Wolverine

RIPD was god awful. By far the worst Comic book movie of 2013.

The best is Man of Steel

Having not seen Kick Ass 2, GI Joe Retaliation or Thor: The Dark World, I rank the films like this:

1. Man of Steel (9 out of 10)
2. Wolverine (8 out of 10)
3. Red 2 (6 out of 10)
4. Iron Man 3 (5 out of 10)
5. RIPD (0 out of 10)
