A mythical beast that has become a massive part of cinema but which representation of it is the most iconic?
Well its time to find out as we decide what is the greatest dragon in cinema history.

For some reason I have a feeling that this thread could just get bombarded with Godzilla comments so for the sake of this video unless it has wings and fly's it isn't a dragon.

Here are some of the contenders

Reign of Fire Dragon

Smaug: The Hobbit Series

Draco: Dragonheart

Maleficent: Sleeping Beauty

Will include the others in the poll, please cast you vote on what you thought was the best representation of a dragon in cinema and if I don't have it on the poll post the name and I will add it.

Your list doesn't include the best one.

Vermithrax Pejorative (Dragonslayer)

Going off of your list, Malificent.

I can't believe you forgot Vermithrax from Dragonslayer, man. She even got to kill the cute, innocent princess! How often does that happen in dragon movies?

Speaking of that... why do most dragon movies suck? Why does what is probably the most popular fantasy creature ever get so little respect from Hollywood?

I don't know, and it kills me. I'd do unspeakable things for more top-quality, medieval dragon films.

Smaug is OK, but he gets bogged down by the mediocre films surrounding him. Not too keen on some of the design choices made with him either.

Vermithrax is the benchmark though. A lot of these other dragons you're seeing borrow heavy influence from that creature design. It's an all-timer.

Added to the poll choices now

Circling back to this for a moment, now that Smaug's been adapted, there are a couple of others I'd like to see Hollywood take a crack at.

- Beowulf (live-action this time)
- Volsunga Saga (Sigurd vs Fafnir)
- Saint George and the Dragon
- The Silmarillion (Pipe dream, but you never know)

I voted for Draco, Dragonheart because of the story and the subtle humour. However, if Dragons were a real thing, I actually think they'd more resemble those seen in Reign of Fire, and I'd think them to be equally as friendly too.

Part of me is a little embarrassed I used to be scared of the dragon in the Pagemaster as a kid. Just went back and had a look he's a lot less intimidating than I remember:funny:

Smaug for sure. The Hobbit movies missed the mark on a lot of things, but they absolutely nailed Smaug.

Vermithrax gets an honorable mention for being revolutionary for its time.

Drogon from Game of Thrones also deserves a lot of recognition as well, even if it’s not a movie. People love him. Look no further than YouTube reactions to his appearance in The Spoils of War.

If we are simply talking about the dragon itself, it is Smaug. I mean come on, look at him. This is also before we get into his personality, which is quality, even in lesser films.

Smaug looked and sounded amazing, sure, but...

His ridiculous fight with the dwarves during the climax of Desolation completely undermined him as a villain.

- The Silmarillion (Pipe dream, but you never know)
No dragon on this poll would be able to compete with a proper adaptation of Glaurung. That fat giant lizard is such a piece of ****, lol.

I find the lack of Ivan from Rocky IV disgusting.

No list of dragons is complete without him.

You're right about the battle. It made him look really dumb - like, seriously, Thorin was literally standing on his nose, and Smaug didn't eat him right then and there? Come on.
And I would be so thrilled if Glaurung ever came to the big screen. Can you imagine how awesome that would be????

I know we are talking about movies but...
Drogon from GOT is simply the best. Perfection.
