Just go a way and spit out some of your favourite opening scenes in movies, no matter the genre!

I'll go first myself and say the ones that came to mind...I gotta go with X2 and the Nightcrawler scene at the White House which was pretty awesome with him teleporting all throughout the building and Revenge of the Sith which I thought was cool...From when they were flying around until they landed the broken ship after saving the Chancellor...

...I would say that the scene should be anywhere from 5-15 minutes long...And a description would be nice though not necessary!

Loved the prologue as well, thought the alley scene in Batman 89 was pretty slow in pacing, and the black and white opening to Casino Royale was really good!

Saving Private Ryan

It thrusts the viewer into its World War II setting with arguably one of the most visceral sequences ever put to film.

Hmm, the opening sequence is inarguably one of the most important points in a film. It either serves to set the movie's tone immediately (Once Upon A Time in The West) or throw up some questions that will be answered later in the film (The Long Good Friday, and also quite common in conspiracy/spy thrillers) But it's obviously the very best way to involve your audiences immediately. And leave them wanting to see the rest of the film.

Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid
Fabulously edited and establishes a real sense of foreboding.

The Godfather
Need I say more? A heartbreaking story that culminates into a direct view in the mafia's world of ethics, honour and respect.

Sexy Beast
Next to the symbolism of this scène (the rolling boulder obviously represents a threat, a danger coming to Gal's life) it's also ****ing hilarious and accompanied by awesome music.

Layer Cake
I'm just a big fan of these ''welcome to my life'' speeches in gangster films and this one is very, very well done.

The Dark Knight
Yes, I will put this one up aswell. It's just so gut-wrenchingly awesome. A badass 70's style heist including uzi's, guns with machine gun clips, grenades and one of those classic big-ass safe doors. The music kicks up the adrenaline level a notch and oh; there's the reveal of The Joker.

I'd have to choose Terminator: Rise of the Machines... I loved the futuristic world that they teased at. Gladiator and Casino are amongst other favorites for me.

Can't believe you fanboys haven't said anything of the opening shot in Star Wars. That star destroyer completely changed movies forever.

Like a lot of other people, I gotta throw some love out to Casino Royale and The Dark Knight. My all-time two favorites are Top Gun and Blade Runner, though.
