Surely you are not that daft. The graphics alone spawned countless "cheap knockoffs" of Mortal Kombat. Throw in fatalities and gore causing parents to scream for a game ratings system.

Mortal Kombat helped usher in a new age of video gaming geared to the more mature consumer. It took what was once a genre dominated by crappy cartoony graphics and ****ty game play (street fighter) and turned it into something that even more selective gamers with higher standards could enjoy.

Street Fghter sucks. I never liked those games. Way cartoony and the movement of the characters sucked, in my opinion. They paled to the graphics and brutality of the Mortal Kombat games.

I wouldnt say they suck but they couldnt compete with other series such as Soul Calibur and Tekken. I think the 3D MK games of the current gen were good as MK games and helped maintain the series while doing something new. But MK as the best fighting game franchise? Nah. Maybe back in the early 90s it would have been a serious contender but not now going into 2007

Why the hell hasn't Capcom made a good 3d Street Fighter game? SF is great, but why are they just rehashing the same stuff? As if a 3d street fighter alpha 3 wouldn't just be the sweetest thing ever.
