I've been watching some found footage horror movies, but I also want to look for recommendations.

Does anyone here have any favorites?

Here are some of the films that I watched recently:

V/H/S
V/H/S/2
V/H/S Viral
Creep
Creep 2
Paranormal Activity Franchise
The Blaire Witch Project
The Poughkeepsie Tapes

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. :)

Love VHS and VHS 2. You should check out Troll Hunter. Also Grave Encounters 1 and 2.

Oh yes, I hear Grave Encounters is really good! I may order those on blu-ray.

"Bipolar" is a lesser known, interesting "Jekyll and Hyde" found footage film.

I'm not a huge 'found footage' fan but I did enjoy all three V/H/S movies.

I had high hopes for the Paranormal Activity films but they left me a bit cold . I did enjoy (sometimes in a 'so bad it's good way') The Asylum's Paranormal Entity films though! :funny:

Temple written by the same guy who has frequently collaborated with Adam Wingard.

I'm a fan of Cannibal Holocaust myself.

Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (a mockumentary about a serial killer...an unrecognized classic in the genre), Afflicted (vampires), The Taking of Deborah Logan (possession), The Conspiracy (conspiracy thriller...basically an Alex Jones episode with an actual story) and [Rec] (zombies) should all be on your list.

A lot of genre fans liked The Sacrament (cult), though I thought that it was way too "inspired" by a true story to be able to claim that it was an original idea.

Frankenstein's Army is a tough one...I had a blast with it because the character designs are so cool...but it's not a good movie.

Love me some REC/Quarantine.

Edit: Forgot about Safe Haven, its unbridled insanity. Would love to a full length horror movie from Gareth Evans.

"Safe Haven" from the second V/H/S movie is probably my personal favorite. You'd be hard pressed to find a more solid 30 minutes of horror.

REC and REC 2 are also spectacular horror movies.

What those three have in common is a real feel for character, composition, and pacing despite the format. So many found footage movies use the format to disguise a lack of, well, filmmaking prowess. No script? Just have the actors make a bunch of **** up! Don't know how to light a set or frame a shot? Who cares, it's supposed to look like crap! Not so in the aforementioned movies. All three are carefully, expertly crafted scare machines executed by real filmmakers.

I hate the concept of found footage and I am yet to see a horror film where I’ve thought of that’s why it’s found footage. The best found footage movies to me are Chroncile and Project Almanac (which both didn’t need to be found footage either).

These are some great suggestions, thanks guys!

Now while these aren't found footage movies, I also love some anthology horror.

ABCs of Death is great. Any others that you guys like?

Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and The Blair Witch Project are the only ones that really worked for me.

If you count Cloverfield as a horror film, you can throw that one in there too.

The first two Creepshow movies are fantastic. The third is an embarrassment and I question why it was ever made.

Good call on the REC movies. Of the four REC3 (the one with the wedding) is actually my favourite. Great ending.

On it's own, REC3 is a fun "Evil Dead" style horror flick, but man it was disappointing after the incredible job they did with 1 and 2.

Gotta be the Blair Witch for me.

I also really enjoyed Troll Hunter and the first Paranormal activity but it's been a few years so I'm not sure if it holds up.

wait, which part was Trick R' Treat found footage?

Troll Hunter is probably my favorite.

Big fan of [rec] and [rec]2. My 3rd favorite is Troll Hunter.

Is Troll Hunter 2 any good as well?
