Just wondering what you all thought were the best, funniest or most infuriating Jameson moments in the comics. I also want to update the spiderfan profile so comic issues are appreciated. What was the comic that gave us his backstory?

Great idea for a thread! I too feel that JJJ is not respected enough in the comics. I am kind of happy to see Marvel doing something new with him, even though it deals with the craptacular event with Peter revealing himself to be Spider-Man. As far as his best moments go, I will have to go back through my comic collection. I will say that JJJ works best with a good writer who does a good job of illustrating Peter's relationship with his supporting cast; for example, I really liked Stan Lee's and Gerry Conway's JJJ.

Yeah good topic. I guess when I think of it one moment stands out in my mind. The first is during inferno when the demons were all over and he was kinda doing a night of the living dead stand off and leading the office in fighting the demons. He was working with an injured bugs and freaking out (bit his cigar in half) but he was a pretty damn good leader and you could really see how much he cared about his people.

I think this is the issue of Spec. where hobgoblin becomes demo. but I could be wrong.

A JJJ moment that stands out for me was when Peter was accused of being a murderer (when Kaine was the one) and JJJ paid Pete's legal bills anonymously. I always thought that was a very upstanding thing to do.

JJJ also paid for Pete & MJ's wedding, even if he was a real chapskate about it.

Best moment... JJJ shouting "YES!" alone in his office after finding out Pete was cleared of murder charges during the clone-saga. It showed how much Jonah actually cared for Peter. Funny how he could stand by him after being accused of murder, but not after being unmasked.

Funniest... Man, I know there's one that's funnier than all the rest, but it's not coming to mind right now. Anyone remember that dream issue from ASM in the 80's when some of the cast fantasized about their ideal life? JJJ daydreamed that he was a machine-gun toting action-hero and when Spidey bothered him at the Daily Bugle, he beat him up and humiliated him. It's funnier than it sounds. Any issue where Spidey and Jonah are in jeopardy together (I think one issue even had them bound together) is usually great as well. One early example would be when they're both captured by the Kingpin during his first appearance in ASM#51 or thereabouts.

He could also think favorably of Spider-Man as long as he thought he was his son, John. But Peter as Spidey? Apparently not.

Oh! Another funny moment was in She-Hulk #8 (?) when he and Pete had to stand outside the Bugle in chicken suits as a settlement of Spidey's lawsuit against the Bugle. (Spidey would have taken money until the lawyer, aka Jen Walters, decided to also sue Peter).

I think this image was a cover to a comic that explained Jonah's back story. Anyone remember what issue it was?

Are you sure? I think this one was pretty recent.

it's spider-man's tangled web#20.

Excellent. Thanks. :yay:

BTW, anyone read JJ's wedding issue (ASM Annual #18)? I know Scorpion tries to kidnap Marla, but what else happens?

JJJ reaction after Spidey reveals his Secret Identity as Peter Parker to The World on tv .

one of the best is when JJJ wants to put as a headline for the Daily Bugle that he beat Spidey and Scorpian when really he was terrified of them fighting lol. there is another one but I just can't seem to remember which Issue it was.

That reaction, absolutely more than any other, was what I wanted to see when Spidey unmasked. Forget the supervillains, we know what they will do with the info, but how will Jameson handle it? Like others have said, he may pretend to hate Parker, but he paid for Peter's defense when he was on trial for murder and he "Hooo HA!"-ed when Peter was found innocent.

But as for being Spider-Man...? Will his affection for Peter or his hate of Spider-Man win out? We'll ask Jonah himself...

"Hello?! Parker! YOU'RE FIRED!"

this one in TAS
something like this, after beating scorpion together
Spidey: "so i guess things will be a bit different between us now?"
jonah: "no, i'll never stop until this town is rid of you"
Spidey: "and i wont stop until you shave that stupid mustache"

i remember that! i laughed when i saw it the first time.

I'd say when JJJ covers the expenses for the wedding annual issue for Peter and MJ it was a very big thing of him.

I also liked his moments of fighting against Norman Osborn when he tried to do a hostile take over of the Daily Bugle and calling him trash.

Another was when JJJ got Spidey's help to defeat Scorpion and then took all the credit in the comics.

Lastly, I have to say ASM #50 when he walks into his office after gloating how he destroyed Spidey all issue and finds Spidey back in his costume with his legs up on his desk mocking him.

Great stuff.

Even though I really don't care for his character, Carnage had a really good scene with JJJ in ASM 362/363 where he literally pleads for his life.

I also thought is scenes with Norman Osborn were classic. Just go read Spider-Man 75 where Norman comes back and there is a big battle at the Bugle.

In addition, I thought the JJJ story with the Spider-Slayers in ASM was a classic earlier story that showcases JJJ's beef with Spider-Man.

Anybody here get the feeling that JJJ will eventually end up doing something good for Peter despite his intentions to ruin him after Peter exposes himself as Spider-Man? I just finished reading FNSM 21, where JJJ fires Robbie for trying to protect anything Peter has left from JJJ. Sure, one would think JJJ to continue his war on Parker, but in the end, I think he will hire Robbie back and do the right thing regarding Peter. After all, JJJ is not a bad guy, he is just ethically and morally challenged.

No, you're right about that. Spectacular spider-man 147, I believe
