Id probably go for Return of the Joker. Although i like MOTP a lot better as a film overall, ROTJ's characterizations are brilliant. It shows his true obsession is with the real Batman (AKA Bruce Wayne). One of my favorite lines ever from the TAS universe is when Joker yells "YOUR NOT BATMAN!!!" at Terry, it shows his true obsession with Bruce Wayne and that he really doesn't like the world without who he considers to be Batman. Also he couldn't bring him self to murder Bruce when he had the chance. When Joker enters the cave he could of easily killed Bruce, but didn't. Unless he was just tried to kill him with a Smile, but he must of known that Bruce knows the cure for Joker Venom.

You forgot Batman the Movie from 1966. Cesar Romero. He was the best.

Oh so I did. Pretty shocking i some how managed to forget that but remembered "The Batman"s Joker. Sorry for that.

EDIT: This is about characterizations not which incarnation of him you liked the best.

Can you define 'best characterisation'? Everyone has played the character differently. Yet every one is true to the comics.

I wouldn't say The Batman's version stayed true to the comics, considering he walks and fights like an ape, shows no obsession real with Batman and id go as far as to say he is a common thief who just happens to be crazy and looks weird.

The Joker in the comics has been a common thief who is crazy, looks weird and has no real obsession with Batman. From the 40's to the early 60's.

As for the appearence, you said this is about characterisation, not looks.

No contest. The Batman's Joker wins by far. An albino Rastafarian with green dreadlocks and beady red eyes, can't get any closer to the comic counterpart. In fact, I think it's better than those s****y comics. Joker in this version is a ruthless madman, he's so psycho he moves like a gorilla and has no time to put on shoes. How can anyone not love it? He practically made "The Batman" watchable.

Oh come on Kev, I know your smart enough to know that there is much more to the Joker than just a crazy common thief.

The Joker has been characterised in numerous different ways over the best part of a century that he has been appearing in comics. I know you are smart enough to understand that. :woot:

Can I direct you to Detective Comics # 332, October 1964, 'The Joker's Last Laugh!'? In which the Joker commits crimes by making all witnesses and police collapse with laughter, thus allowing the Joker and his men to make a clean getaway. This Joker is common thief (he steals jewels, cash etc) who is crazy (rides around a giant chicken), looks weird and has no real obsession with Batman. He just wants to be silly and steal. This is how the Joker was for a very long period.

Return of the Joker is my favourite characterization of him. Covered all the angles of Joker that we've seen in the comic books, including Joker screwing with someone close to Batman.

Mask of the Phantasm. It showed Joker before the chemical bath as a hit man. It had a man go completely nutters over laughing gas! Great part! There were so many scenes where Joker tapped into his pure essence. I've stated this before: to me, the Joker died off screen at the end of MOTP. It's such a fitting end for the villain as Andrea vanishes in a cloud of smoke, he's laughing hysterically. She kills him... her quest for vengeance has come to an end, yet she leaves Gotham, taking along with her that feeling of unfulfillment.

So you agree with my first post in this thread?

Darkest version to me was in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Those who have seen it know why.

He tried to destroy Bruce in his mansion with a giant laser.

The Joker doesn't give two craps about Bruce Wayne. He made that clear in the flashback when he talked about his disappointment at discovering his true identity. And while he may have an obsession with Batman, he's not above obliterating him in a manner he finds hilarious.

Mask of the Phantasm.

Also, I need to see Return of the Joker again. I've only seen it once. :(

Haha. :D

Back on topic, I don't care if it is Jack, I was never too fond of The Joker from Batman when I got older. With that said, my favorite was from Return of the Joker.

My point being, if he really wanted Bruce Wayne dead, right there and then he would of just ripped out his heart, He had the chance. Also yeah I agree his obsession is with Batman, I just said Bruce since he clearly isn't obsessed with Terry.

Some people like to play with their food.:o

Bruce is old and doesn't pose any immediate threat to Joker, so he had less incentive to kill him right then and there.

Umm you could look it at like that, although he did pose some threat since he knew (or atleast had a good idea) Bruce was giving Terry Hints and tips, since he beats Terry up and says "Im sure your watching this Bruce". I could be wrong there since I haven't watched it in awhile.

Return of the Joker.
