Alfred Molina.

Honorable mentions go to Jeff Bridges, Ian McKellen, Brian Cox, and Willem Dafoe.

Alfred Molina as Doc Oc. He was believably formidable and he wasn't the typical super villain, even though Raimi repeated the use of schizophrenia.

This should have been multiple choice.

Probably McKellan's Magneto.

Some honorable mentions would go to Molina's Doc Ock, Nolte's David Banner, Jeff Bridge's Obadiah Stane, etc.

Sam Elliott was awesome in Hulk, but he wasn't really the villain.

I voted McKellen.

That said, Bryan Cox’s performance is the only one convincing enough to actually make me really dislike a character. Cox’s Stryker is such a bastard, I was glad to see him go.

I'd say:

1. Ian McKellen as Magneto
2. Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin
3. Alfred Molina as Doc Ock
4. Jeff Bridges as Obidah Stane
5. James Franco as the New Goblin

Honorable mentions go to Romijn/Mystique, Nick Nolte, Brian Cox, Tim Roth, Church and Grace.

Really there have been quite a few good ones and this was hard to decide on any order from the above 11 named. But the top three were clear. McKellen is the only villain in a comic book besides Catwoman in BR who I think lived up to their full potential (I hope Ledger's Joker joins that list). He was just a great villain who you also liked and respected. But at the end of the day a dangerous egomaniac and hypocrite. Perfectly played in his duality. Despite a crappy costume Dafoe gave a spot-on characterization of Norman Osborn illicting hate and pathos at the same time. He was just a perfect GG in performance and his ghostly appearances in the sequel only raised his stature. And despite a somewhat dubious changed origin, Molina turned Doc Ock into a character as iconic as Magneto and Jack's Joker. He just was a great villain who was a sharp contrast from Dafoe's deliciously crazy GG. Molina internalized the role and made him a menace by "carrying a big stick and talking softly" with a great undertone of sardonic humor.

The other 8 I named, I really liked as well. In fact all the names up there were good in one way or another (I hope no one minds I left off lesser performances like the Hand in Elektra or Dracula in Blade Trinity, for example).

I go with Magneto - His character isn't even that much of a 'bad guy', insomuch as he felt he was actually doing the right thing. Hell, depending on the way the movies could have gone, he might have ended up right... Brilliant character...

Alfred Molina was number one up until TIH came out, now Tim Roth is the 'daddy'. What is it about Brits playing villains so convincingly?

I think treating your son as a bad experiment, trying to kill him, killing his mother, coming back and trying to kill him and kill his love interest pretty much makes David Banner the worst.

if you're bad enough to your own kin, then you have no real backbone.

I guess nomak also killed his siblings but he was more pissed off he was rejected so it was like being slightly emo.

everyone else on that list has at least one redeeming quality of loyalty, purpose, original family values or something.

Banner was evil before he got any powers....gotta hand it to him.

i know many will disagree but meh.

ultimately doc ock managed to save new york (apparently) while spiderman was flirting with his girlfriend. It was his tentacles that were actually evil and he was somewhat weakminded and easily manipulated. Meh

dafoe gets a decent mention for corrupting from beyond the grave, that's a tough talent to beat.

Definitely Ian McKellen's Magneto with Rebecca Romijn's Mystique a close second. They were a brilliant pairing.

Ah, but was it Dafoe or just a hallucination by Harry? Or a projection of how NOrman really treated Harry behind closed doors (my guess)? ;)

And you said all villains had some redeeming qualities? Well I'd say Colin Farrell's Bullseye, Deacon Frost, and Tim Roth's Emil Blonsky do not. But to compare; David Banner was in love with his wife and Lee gives him a scene mourning the death of his wife and was in genuine shock he killed her. He did feel remorse for that. And the last image of David Banner in Hulk is Bruce remembering one of his very few good memories of the man. So was he depicted as all-out evil, then?

I agree Nolte played a great character, but there was some humanity there which is why I like him better than some villains. But he didn't reach my top 5 simply because him turning into a bolt of electricity and then a giant energy bubble was really lame and underwhelming to their relationship's arc.

I think the scene where Magneto kills the prison guards with two pinballs worth of metal really cements his place at number 1.

I really cant decide, it would definately have been Magneto before X3 but in that he was made out to be an idiot so it makes it harder to judge.

I also loved Nomak, Frost, Stryker, Mystique, David Banner, GG, Ock and Harry Osbourne. Stane and Blonsky were pretty good as well. I'll have to have a serious think.

Also, shouldnt Silver Surver, Blackheart, Mephisto and Dracula/Drake be on there?

Why does Obadiah Stane have more votes than Deacon Frost?

It's ridicoulous, it's preposterous, it's ludicrous... By God it's impetuous!

Frost is a great villain. He is in fact the best part of the first Blade film, IMO and Dorff elevates the film (I was always wonder why his career never took off). However, Frost is a very over-the-top villain who is very linear in his motivations. Obidiah Stane played by Jeff Bridges is a much more rounded character who has a deeper past with the hero and other characters. He is someone who was a mentor to Tony Stark and admired him, while at the same time was jealous and spiteful of him in secret. He had complexities that meant he could have been a good man and has a very friendly and affable demeanor, but his greed and vanity leads him to trying to kill someone who I imagine he looked at as somewhat of a son.

Frost was an evil vampire who wanted to rule all vampires and never wavered in his naarcissism or malice and never hid it. Both are great characters, b ut I think Stane was a more interesting character for some viewers. But I can see why some whould prefer Frost who was just a badass through and through.

for me it was Magneto. That whole speech he gave Pryo in Xmen II was great. About being a god amongst insects. If you werent a bad guy ti start with, that speech would have made you want to be one.
