I decided too not make this a poll but a write in debate. Cause too many opinions too come up with a favorble attempt so fellow shh member what movie is the greatest all time. Is it some classic film or some 80s gem when movies were cool.
No movie is the wrong answer. I decided too make this an open debate because with thousands of movies i would have pissed someone off.

I have no number one myself but do have top five candidates.

Return Of The King-

I feel it was the most amazing end too a trilogy i ever saw at a cinema and no Fantasy film was done better but face it all of the trology should be called one film.

Rio Bravo-

In my opinion one of the best westerns ever made with a cast that sands up today still.
Call me an old foggy but westerns like taht are no more even if they try

Treasure Island

This is my favorite movie as a child and disney best film ever done in my view its what POTC wish it could have been and somewhat did try to imulate with Captain Barbossa and Mr Gibbs

The Dark Knight-

I really don't think a mor perfect action / comic book film has even been made. The cast is one of the best even if liked Katie Holmes better then Maggie.
But movies like this are classics and i can say i was alive when this film was made and i have seen mnay great ones in 30 years.

Rocky

What movie but Rocky could anyone not view as possible best film ever made . The story was great and Apollo, Rocky, Mick and Adrian became icornic names everyone who fallows movies know.

I couldn't pick just one, but I could pick a top 5:

Jaws
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Back to the Future
The Dark Knight
Goodfellas

Lord of the Rings

I count all three as one movie because, quite frankly, it is. The only reason for three releases is because of time constraints.

I agree. Basically the same reason they released it as three seperate books. Tolkien had deadlines and only released his masterpiece a third at a time to satisfy publishers.

The Godfather. Rarely do the performances of an ensemble measure up to the epic scope of it's story but this is the movie that shows both at an absolute peak. The journey that Michael takes as a character in this movie alone, without including the sequels, is broader and more interesting than most other protagonists lead throughout an entire trilogy.

I'm with Chaos. Nothing can beat The Godfather in my book.

And when you take his developments in Part 2 and even in Part 3 (for all the slack it gets, it still has an amazing ending. I love the contrast of Michael dying alone where as his father died surrounded by family who loved him) into account. You just have a brilliant movie that is unmatched to this day.

Well The Godfather is good but i think Rocky is better then it my 5 th candidate. I did not put Star Wars down cause everyone seems like its the only movies great it seems. But in my opinion alot of better acted films comes before them.

The Lord of the Rings (full trilogy). I think of it as one movie too.

What really bugs me though is that some people out there won't even give it a chance. They blow it off, saying things like "Oh, I don't like fantasy" or, even worse, "I don't like SCI-FI." The thing is, you don't have to like fantasy (or sci-fi, even though it's NOT sci-fi) to enjoy the films. You just have to be a fan of movies. All around, it's a great story with great characters, amazing special effects and some dynamite performances. At the very least, it deserves some respect for the amount of time Peter Jackson and Co. put into the film(s).

I'm dually amazed at the amount of people who write it off who studied English and literature. I don't know, I would think that a book that was considered by many to be the greatest book of the MILLENNIUM deserves some consideration, and if you don't feel a need to sit down and read it, you should at least give the film a chance.

Casablanca
On the Waterfront
Return of the King
Empire Strikes Back
Fargo

idk theres soooo many!

couldnt agree more, if you sit someone down to watch that film no matter what it will captivate the viewer. Whether its the performances, the special effects, the music, or the overall epic scale of it all, it gets to you.
I actually watched all three this week and just finished the third one today. Beautiful filmmaking.

Terminator 2
Jurassic Park
Die Hard
The Matrix
Wall-E

(not all of these are even in my top 10, but I think they deserve a nomination)

Yeah, I need to watch them all again. I think it's been a year or two since I watched all three. I don't think that any movie series in my lifetime will captivate me the way that those films did (not even Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, though they come close).

So far people have listed things besides TDK. Besides, why should'nt it be considered a great movie? (I mean this as a legitimate question, not an insult)

For me (too hard to choose which one's my absolute favorite):
-The Return of the King
-Return of the Jedi
-The Dark Knight
-Godfather
-Terminator 2

Kinda cliche I know...but that's because they're great movies.

Psycho
Vertigo
Pulp Fiction
Jaws
Citizen Kane
Raging Bull
