I've never bought the individual comics, but started a few years ago buying what were considered the best material off Amazon in the past. Year One, TDKR, TLH, DV, Hush, Arkham Asylum, TKJ, and Son of the Demon being some of the first ones I got. Out of these TLH has one picture of him and DV has a brief cameo by him, the other's dont even mention him. "Strange Apparitions" is about the only thing I have with the Penguin having his own story in it. Sometimes I wonder if the Penguin's popularity and notoriety with the general public is simply due to Meredith's portrayal of him on the Adam West TV show, since he doesn't seem to be a very big player in the recent comics.

Simply put, what are your favorite Penguin stories and materials that feature him?

I loved Alan Grant's two parter in Detective #610 and 611, and his origin story in the Secret Origins Special, where he gets revenge on the bully who tormented him as a child.

Doug Moench did a great Penguin two parter in Batman #548 and 549, too.

Thanks Doc, I appreciate the reference and I'll now have to search the web to find where i can get my hands on those. Anyone else have any recommendations?

There's a good Penguin story in Dini's Batman: Detective TPB.

Recently, Detective Comics #824 had a good Penguin story. Not much happens in it, but The Penguin has a really great dialogue with The Riddler about the nature of crime and criminals in Gotham.

I really like the "Emperor Penguin" story when he has Talia Al'Ghul as a slave at his castle

:wow:
