How do you feel about ska-punk? I've seen alot of mixed feeling about it among punk fans.

    One of the best:

Don't think it's really punk, but if you want to hear some sweet punk influenced metal post hardcore, 'somehow' get your hands on The Fall Of Troy now.

    right now

Ska punk isn't bad. If No Doubt can be considered ska punk, then yeah, I like them.

Pre Return of saturn they could be, yes.

Other Skapunk I've liked have been Reel Big Fish and Goldfinger (pre-open your eyes after that they went to s**t for some reason)

I liked at the drive it but when I saw them at big day out in sydney they were such f*#ked. They stopped playing because people were moshing and then they left the stage.

that's not the real green day. that's them after they were placed under the power of some great evil (either satan or the cookie monster). the real greenday can be best heard on nimrod, kerplunk, and 1039/smoothed out slappy hour.

I completely agree with you Cryptic, %100 no sarcasm, I only wish people like NOFX could understand this.

Also, for anyone who liked At The Drive In, I suggest The Mars Volta and Purtagul. The Man

It's like, At The Drive In divided into 2.

Green Day is the same band they were on 1039/Smooth. Because their music has a direction now and they wear matching clothes shouldn't be a deterrent. People will ***** about anything. I love how it used to be "Green Day sucks!" and now its "Green Day used to rock but now they look dumb so they suck!" People, man. American Idiot isn't about complaining, or the band ranting about how bad they have it, or an attack on America for being ******ed. It's an observation on the way the media in America attempts to control society, and how easily so many Americans (rednecks in particular, for example) are persuaded by what they see and hear on those magical boxes in their living rooms. It's also a direct retaliation on the bonehead moves of President Bush. On top of those undertones, ther album is primarily a concept album, telling the story of a suburban youth, Jesus of Suburbia. The entire album is the story of JoS and his journey of self-realization. He starts off hating the bull**** going on in the world, leaves his home, has fun on his own, loses his mind, meets a rebel named St. Jimmy (some argue that Jimmy and JoS are one in the same, with a Fight Club-esque scenario... a theory I agree with) falls in love with a girl called Whatsername, falls into drugs, loses all his friends, returns home, gets a job, picks up his life while still being totally lost, and wonders where his lost love Whatsername is and what would've happened had he not become an American idiot, the one thing he hated and left home to escape a town full of.

I love when people make fun of a band for wearing eyeliner or writing an emotional song. It's exactly what the album is about... how people are ignorant, and hate music such as AI because the band changed their appearance, and even though people say they're punks and dont care about looks, the first thing they rant on GD is about their looks and new clothes. Green Day is as punkrock as they always were. Not only did they open the doors for all new punkrock bands today, but they're still kicking and rocking their stage. They make music with more than a good melody; they have messages and goals. More kids got politically involved after AI than ever before. Green Day even lost a ton of their fans who were conservative before AI, and also are influencing young people and bands today. Green Day turned down $10 million in corporate shows to play their stadium tour, which I experienced at Giants Stadium last September. They got huge... that's a lame ass reason to hate them, because not only does ith ave nothing to do with their morality or "punk"ness, but it shows how much one band can affect society. Its not because theyre hot or wear eyeliner... look around, other bands have done that before, and other bands have hated on the president before, and other bands have made good catchy songs before, and Green Day was nowhere near as huge as they are now. There has to be something to it.

Oh, and Offspring rocks, The Ramones make good music but have annoying as **** vocals, and NoFX rocks, and The Clash are pretty good (great stage presence), and look out for Billy Talent in the future:spidey:.

Couldn't agree more, when I heard "Hit That" I nearly cried, but I decided to check out Splinter anyways and was greeted by one of their most darkest albums since Ignition. Me thinks poor sales of Splinter and the success of Can't Repeat will change that for the next album.
