I certainly think it looks like it will be. Has Spider-man succeeded where every other major franchise has failed before? Batman couldn't bust out 3 super quality films in a row, without messing things up. Superman couldn't do it. Both franchises got off on the right foot, but Batman stumbled with his second showing, and Superman fumbled the ball with the third movie. Blade had everything going for it, but the third one messed it all up. Up until now, X-men has probably been the best "superhero trilogy". Seeing as though it was the first franchise to extend 3 films, in which continuity was kept, and it looked and felt like the same story evolved. Spider-man, obviously has potrayed its franchise in a similar fashion, but is doing so at a much higher level with more spotlight and attention focused on it. Raimi, and Sony have yet to drop the ball, and it looks as though they have a great walk off home run here with Spider-man 3. So my question is, do you think Spider-man will un-doubtedly be the best "superhero trilogy"?

Well, at least until we get all 3 of Nolan's Bat-films. :woot:

Definitely, but there's not much to compare it to. Superman and Batman both went past trilogies. Then there's X-Men and Blade, both trilogies which suck.

The first Spider-man was mediocre and brings the franchise down a bit and opens the door for future franchises to steal that title. However, when you look at the big picture of all three movies (if the third is as mindblowing as what we've seen so far in the clips) then I'll have no trouble crowning the Spider-man franchise the best Superhero trilogy as of now. Just about every single comic franchise (or any other franchise for that matter) has crumbled at the third movie. Maybe the curse will finally be broken.

If this is the best superhero trilogy then i'm going to cry. I find SM to be average and SM2 to be far below. How I hate SM2:cmad:.

I think both Spider-man and Spider-man 2 are of the elite of big budget superhero movies. Spider-man as a film may be average, but it was widely loved and made a crap ton of money. You also have to take into account that it is truly hard to be a very good artistic movie, when you're trying to introduce this character and mythos to such a large audience. Spider-man, however was mad successful as an entertaining blockbuster, that captured the essence of the comic perfectly. Spider-man 2, IMO, is the better film ... because it had the time to develop and be a better film because the origin was out of the way. Character rapport with the audience had already been established. But I still prefer the first one for entertainment purposes.

The point is, whether you consider Spider-man average or not, the Sony Spider-man franchise has been more consistent in terms of quality from film to film, then any of the other superhero franchise.

You can certainly compare it as a franchise to those two heavyweights. Batman and Superman both messed themsevles up big time within their first three films. If they would have maximized the talent, and story, etc. whose to say there would have even been a film past #3? Like, the didn't get it right the first few times, so they were forced to make more films because they knew at one time it WAS profitable when it was good.

If this 3rd Spidey delivers like it should, then it definitley will have the right to argue the claim of best hero trilogy. The first Spidey movie was more than acceptable (They got it right so to speak) and the second beat all other Superhero movie before it (toping the first Superman movie) that is until 'Batman Begins'.

Superman could have been the one if Richard Donner had stay on baord, but he got screwed. Fortunatley 75% of Superman II was already film and Richard Lester comedy "fillers" didn't really hurt it in the end.

Unfortunately you saw what happen when he got to helm the entire Superman movie, Superman III, and that killed that series.

Batman had another chance but the sequel became more of a movie for Tim Burton weirdness than about Batman and that killed that series.

X-men could have been it but the first movie was a piece of crap from the get go. The sequel was way better and the last one was better than the first one, but it was so off track with the X-men that it could only get better (couldn't get much worse).

the only thing that might challenge Spidey is the upcoming Batman trilogy form Chris Nolan. And 'Batman Begins' is a great start.

Can we wait until Singer is finished with his Superman Trilogy and Nolan's finished with his Batman Trilogy before we give out this award?

Because...I have a feeling that one of those franchises will beat out Spider-Man's trilogy....(I ain't saying which one....)

Well I doubt it is going to be Singer's trilogy. His already got off to a horrendous start. And techinically, it isn't even his trilogy. It's Donner's story, and Donner's characters. It can't count as Singer's stuff when he ripped the material off someone else. Plus Returns is too polarizing. Either people love it, or they hate it. And really, it wasn't a very good film. Bad plot, bad acting, bland, etc. Spider-man and Spider-man 2 > Superman Returns.

Spider-man isn't going to be a trilogy. It's going past 3.

So no, it doesn't qualify. :yay:

For a period of time, it will be a trilogy. Star Wars went past 3 films, but it is regarded as a trilogy.

Exactly. And according to BSinger, it should already be a trilogy.

He's omitted Superman III and IV...

Superman I
Superman II
Superman Returns

Opinion, not fact, sir....

Bland, bad acting, and bad visual effects can also be applied to Spider-Man, easily....

The trilogies will end up (in my mind) ranking out this way:

1.) Nolan's Batman
2.) Rami's Spider-man
3.) Singer's Superman
4.) Singer/Ratner's X-men
5,) Story's Fantastic Four

Donner/Lester's Superman franchise fumbled with movie number 3. However, you could argue that Singer's Superman Returns completes the trilogy started by Superman: The Movie and Superman II and that would be one of the best trilogies to date.

Speaking of Singer's Superman franchise, the first film was great. It ranks in the tops of superhero films (regardless of many opinions on these boards). It is a high quality, Oscar nominated film. The sequels promise to rectify the only inequities of Superman Returns. It promises bigger, badder villains, and a quicker pace, maintaining the large scope and huge action. Add that to the solid foundation and solid characters already established, it will rank in the top five.

X-men: Singer started it all off beautifully. Had he gotten the chance to finish (we'd be seeing his version of X3 this summer had it happened) it would no doubt rank among the top two in superhero trilogies. Ratner didn't do terribly with the third installment. But there is no doubt that he dropped the ball on the very easy pass Singer threw to him. It will be on the bottom part of the top 5 regardless.

Tim Story did make a good Fantastic Four film. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer looks to be much better. It seems, epic, dramatic, funny, and everything you could want in a summer superhero film. With the coming of Galactus foreshadowed for the 3rd film, it has every possibility to rank among the top 5.

Spider-man: Spider-man (2002): This was a great start. Critically, however, it was not held in as high regard as the rest of us hold it. I, personally, love it. But it didn't, according to at least Robert Ebert, get it "right" on the first try. Enter, Spider-man 2. This film, as of 2004, was hailed as the best superhero film..ever. It's follow-up film, this year's Spider-man 3, will no doubt finish the trilogy in stellar fashion. In most critics eyes: that's an 8/10 a 10/10 and possibly another 10/10. This will probably make this the best trilogy of all time.

Of course we are forgetting one huge franchise. I feel great saying this, but Batman stands to be the best superhero franchise of all time. My reasoning? Batman Begins. This film got it right, a 10/10 on the first try, unlike Spider-man (2002). If The Dark Knight and Batman III end up matching and/or surpassing the quality of Batman Begins there will be no stopping it. With Oscar nominee, Heath Ledger and Spirit Award winner, Aaron Eckart stepping in as the next two villains, Joker and Two face, respectively- it's looking good.

This is what I think will happen. Spider-man will take the crown this year. It will hold it as the undisputed champion for about 5 years. Then, when The Dark Knight and Batman III debut there will be a dispute. There is a huge chance that Spider-man retains it's crown...but Batman will put up a fight.

In terms of Box office.....Spider-man already could make 1 dollar with movie 3 and I think would still win hands down.

spiderman was great at the time of its release but it didnt hold up over time to good. its still good though manly the last 30 mins. spiderman 2 is still amazing, and i never get sick of it. spiderman 3 , well go watch the trailer in front of 300. i hear theres some hot spidey on venom action. its only 2 months away people 2 F'N MONTHS

also 89 percent on rt for spidey 1 which is amazing and 98 i believe for spiderman 2.

best trilogy spiderman 1 (not so good but yeah)
spiderman 2 (i like the train fight)
spiderman 3 (this will be my favorite movie ever

From what i've seen from the 7 1/2 minute preview, i think i can safely say Spider-Man will steal the title of "best Superhero Trilogy"....

How long he HOLDS that title remains to be seen. :ninja:

yeah i think spiderman 3 will be the best superhero movie ever

I love the first Spiderman film. I can watch it anytime and still be entertained. I just saw Spiderman 2 the other night after a couple of months and I fell in love with it all over again. If Spiderman 3 can do the same (and it most likely will), then the Spiderman trilogy will be the best, IMO. I like BB, but it can't beat my Spiderman.

I'm going to predict that it will be Spiderman.
