so what way do you keep your collection. alphabetical, genre, star, combo

I liek to do it by genre with the exception sometimes being by director

I don't organize mine :D

Well, I probably put my favourite ones at the top of the pile so they are easier to find. But that's as far as it goes for me.

Alphabetically/chronologically/series is my system. All of it is alphabetical, if there are two of the same name the older one is to the left or the newer. A series like James Bond is all chronological and filed under "B."

I keep them in alphabetical, although I keep movies in one series together. For example I have The Dark Knight together with Batman Begins.

I put favorite movies on the top and bad movies at the bottom.

I used to do it by Genra. But then i would always see all these crappy movies I own at eye level. So I decided to organize them from best to worst. The Really bad movies I took them off the shelf all together and put them on the wall of shame, where no one shall ever look! :wow:

Ha! That never dawned on me. I have mine in alphabetical order, so I have TDK seperated from my other Batman movies. Funny.

I have my TV series collections seperate from my movies.

I used to do alphabetical but there were too many in the "P"'s or whatever that I kept forgetting I had so now I do it a little differently. I have 4 book shelves for them.

Shelf 1: Tv Box set dramas(Lost, Alias, Buffy, all HBO shows, etc.)
Shelf 2: Tv box set sitcoms(Simpsons, 30 rock, Seinfeld, etc.), Anime, Adult animation(Drawn together, South Park, Invader Zim), "action cartoons"(Real Ghostbusters, Thundercats), Disney tv shows and films(Ducktales, Gargoyles, and films like Peter Pan, Aladdin, etc.).
Shelf 3: Star Trek and Star Wars films and tv shows, Sci-fi/horror films, drama films, comedy films, action films. Some of the films are organized by directors who get their own section(bigger sections include: Quentin Tarentino, Robert Rodriguez, Tim Burton, Kevin Smith, Steven Spielberg)
Shelf 4: the nerd shelf: G.i. Joe/Transformers, Marvel movies/shows, DC movies/shows, indie comics movies/shows(ninja turtles, the tick, etc.)

i was going for genre, with alphabetical in it. but you hit problems with stuff like the living dead series.

I mix everything into each other, such as PS3 games, Blu-Rays, TV Series and Movies...

000->999, A->Z

But series go together after the 1st film takes place holder. Magnum Force, etc. follow Dirty Harry in my D's.

or like how NHL08 is next to No Country for Old Men.

or my 24 Day 1-7 is before (500) days of Summer.

I've been meaning to organize them. Right now it's my favorites first, then it's just random order (unless there are sequels, which are together).

Spider-Man 1, 2, and 3 start first, then The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man, and then X-Men films and so on.

Mine are somewhat organized in the order I bought them.

alphabetical/chronological/franchise

for example:

first ones on my shelf are the 007 movies and i put those chronological, from Dr. No all the way down to Quantum

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are side by side because they are part of the same franchise, although the first starts w/ "B" and the other "D"

before those are Batman and Batman Returns, again chronological

pretty simple for me

I found doing it alphabetical to be a bit boring so I have my own setup. I start off with all my horror movies from silent films to black and white pictures(with sound of course)on to more modern films.

I place a lot of films from the same director next to each other like Quentin Tarantino, M. Night, Kevin Smith, Clint Eastwood and all comic films go together. For director John Carpenter I have his all together as well but the last of his films are the ones with Kurt Russell which then leads to all of Kurt Russell's films(huge fan of his). I got all my action films together, sci-fi, dramas, fantasy and then comedies. With comedies I also go by director or overall cast, I got all of Will Ferrell's films together as well as Judd Apatows.

I've gone by studio for years.

So if you have a Batman Begins/The Dark Knight situation you can lump them together, for TV shows all the seasons are together, no alphabetical bs and it looks nice with the studio logos next to each other.
Having a row of WB or Fox (mostly TV, older movies) looks great.
If I want to look for something, I know that which studio made the DVD so I know what area to look at.

why do you even have bad movies?

Guilty pleasures.

I own a few **** movies like Punisher: War Zone and Ghost Rider because they were still a bit entertaining. Mainly for the laugh factor, the kind of movies that are so bad that they are good.

Plus I thought Ray Stevenson nailed the Punisher(if only the movie was serious) and even when Nic Cage gives a bad performance or is just in a crappy film overall, he's still entertaining.

I have Punisher War Zone, it's a fun action flick. I like the Punisher (2004) way better though.

I'm a big Ghost Rider fan and found the movie disappointing, too light, too corny, but there were some good things. I own it too.

I forgot about the fact I have a couple of real crappy movies down in the bottom rows of my collection, Battlefield Earth being one, and The Cat in the Cat being another. BE I bought very cheap for laughs, TCITH, I bought as I loved the books when I was a kid, I have had the movie for about 3 or 4 yrs now and have never got past the first twenty minutes.

I am not so anal about some things in my collections, my cd's can lie around in any order, same with my comics to an extent, but I get really particular about how my dvds are arranged for some reason, I think this is why I typed out so many when asked, because the very order they lie in is important! My Tarantino's are all in a row as well, with two non-directed ones bookending them(True Romance, Dusk Til Dawn).

edit: thinking about it, I think i am so anal about setting my dvds up right is because when i was a kid we never had a VCR until i was about 12, and so i went for years drooling over the idea of owning films, and looking in video shops at all the goodness i could not rent. so, now i have my own video shop and I like to take care of my customer, ie me.

I organize alphabetically with the sequel coming right after no matter what the title is. So, if the first movie was say Spider-Man and the sequel was The Amazing Spider-Man, it would go under S.

I do it by format (DVD or Blu-Ray), and then genre. I also keep my animated stuff and live action stuff separate.
