Brought back from the dead and walking the earth with no memory or will of their own... What are your picks for the best and worst?

best- Army of Darkness
worst-Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town

Dvdactive made a great part 1 of their Best zombie essential, which I recommend anyone here to go through.

Sure, most hardcore zombie fan like myself have seen (or know) most of those, but for the rest, it's an interesting reading:

Personnally, i'd pick the trilogy of Romero as the best, along with the evil deads movies and shaun of the dead.

Worst ? The recent big crap that's coming out like the resident evil movies, the Dawn of the dead remake and etc. They are such a waste of budget compare to what all the above great movies were able to achieve with far less, brr.

I actually thought the Dawn of the Dead remake was actually quite good.

I am sure Romero's Dead trilogy will get a lot of votes.

Personally, I love Shaun of the Dead. Both funny, and had some truly dramtic moments.

one of the best is the extremley underrated, return of the living dead tilogy (4 and 5 dont count)

The dawn remake wasn't that bad, imo. But it also had a lot to back it up: a good original idea, a great budget and the popularity of zombies, all there to help the filmmakers to make one hell of a great movie. But, imo, they failed, and made something very generic. Quite a shame.

28 days later revived zombie movie and, aside from Romero's achievements, should be put on near the top too.

Shaun of the dead is simply the greatest horror comedy spoof of the last 20 years. It put to shame all of the Scary movies and Another teen movies out there, brrr.

I love Romero's NOTLD, Romero's LOTD, 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn remake and the Savini remake of NOTLD.

Everything else blows.

It certainly wasn't reinventing the Zombie movie, but it did what it set out to do I thought. I think people were expecting a bit of a washout, I was when I first heard about it. I was pleasantly surprised though.

28 Days Later is another movie which ranks near the top. I really don't watch it as much as I should, but it definatly reinvigorated the whole Zombie genre.

Speaking of Zombie genre, does anyone get a little tired of the whole thing now. It's not just Zombie movies, but comic books, computer games and other forms of entertainment. It seems to have really gone overboard from what the whole thing started out.

the Romero classics will always be tops with me...but i agree with Return of the Living Dead being up there too....as well as Cemetary Man..which is vastly underrated.

I can never get tired of zombie. But I can get tired of my precious zombies being so badly handle in every medium, sniff. So, while I don't hold your view, we do get back to the same ending you and I, which is being disgusted by the zombie craze, me for it's lack of quality and you for it's impossible quantity.

umm just like to throw this out, 28 days later isnt a zombie film, it was never advertised as a zombie movie and even the writer and director say it isnt, none of the people are dead, they are infected. to be a zombie you have to be risen from the dead

I don't mind Zombie if it's good. Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Resident Evil games (movies ugh), Shaun of the Dead...hell even Marvel Zombies.

But after a while, seeing Zombie related material being handled so poorly, I really think why bother.

Best: The Trio, NOTLD, DOTD and DayOTD
Worst: Resident Evil 2 with it's total of about five minutes worth of zombie scenes.

Before Romero, zombie were puppets without soul controled by Vodoo sorcerers. Then, they became creatures reanimated from the dead who craved human flesh under Romero's own take.

And while Boyle might not call his movie a zombie flick, it pretty much follow the same formula, except with a new twist on it, which really is just a more modern way to make zombies work. Resident evil has infected people too, but they were considered zombies too. Heck, i've seen stranger zombie flicks than 28 days later will ever be. And yes, these strange zombie flicks were zombie flicks.

Night of the living dead, Braindead, Versus, dawn of the dead, land of the dead are the best

Best:
Romero's movies, the best being Day of the Dead IMO
28 Days Later
Army of Darkness (I like Bruce Campbell as much as the next guy, but that doesn't make the first two Evil Dead movies any good)

For a completely different kind of zombie movie, The Serpeant and the Rainbow

Worst: Most other ones

BTW, Special write-in votes for best books: The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z.

Let's see, my favorites are;

Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Night of the Living Dead (Re-make)
Dawn of the Dead (Re-make)
28 Days Later
Shaun of the Dead
Resident Evil
Return of the Living Dead
Zombie

Least favorites;

Return of the Living Dead 2-5
Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Braindead is just absolutely the most insane zombie movie ever....it was the first zombie spoof...before Shaun of the Dead.

Are you saying that the original Dawn and Day blow? Return of the Living Dead? Dead Alive?

Shame. Shame. Shame.

P.S. 28 Days Later is a zombie movie?

I'm not disputing the quality of Braindead/Dead Alive. It's a fantastic movie. But the first, and best (IMO) zombie spoof is Return of the Living Dead.

Was that a spoof or homage though? IT's a fine line I think? I didn't really laugh much during Return... and that ending was pretty dark.

But Dead Alive is like....u can't take anything in that movie serious.

Maybe it's because I'm just a cynical bastard, but I laughed a whole hell of a lot while watching Return. Either way, Shaun of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead, and Braindead are all in my top ten favorite zombie movies.

Sorry, E....:(
Original Dawn and Day bored me to tears
I haven't seen Dead Alive, I didn't know it was a zombie movie until now

I hope they never try to remake Return or Dead Alive...part of the charm of those movies are the time frame and the budget they were made with.
