Drama Better Call Saul! - Breaking Bad Spinoff A Go At AMC - Part 1

MY friends!

I am very late to the party. I've spent the last several months binging this show. I had watched season one years ago and this became one of those shows that I liked but told myself I'd "catch up to it eventually," but never did. Well finally I did and have binged about 5 seasons worth in the last few months and just finished the finale. So much to say but all in all the #1 thing that pops up is:

Best Prequel Ever.

This was an incredible ride. Vince Gillian and Peter Gould made a show that stands head and shoulders with its predecessor and provided a tremendous amount of 3 dimensional backstory and context to characters and events of Breaking Bad. I have a lot to say but bravo, this show was fantastic beginning to end. I'm sad that this universe has come to an end but when all's said and done we have 11 seasons and a movie that takes place in this quirky New Mexico world which is more than we could have asked for.

I am now going to proceed into doing a rewatch of Breaking Bad with all this newfound layered context and groundwork this show has given us and eager to see how that enhances my viewing experience of it.

One loose end I’m a little surprised didn’t come up in the post-BrBa timeline is Mike’s family. Surely the dots connecting Mike to Gus to Walt would’ve come out?

Yeah and you would have gotten Kerry Condon back for one more scene.

The Saul/Breaking Bad edits on YouTube have been getting extra unhinged lately.

I already use AMC A-List, Regal Unlimited and Alamo Season Pass like a psycho so moviepass is damn irrelevant to me. Why have you come back?!!!

A few weeks out from the finale, and I do find myself wondering how these last few episodes played for people who were mainly familiar with BCS over Breaking Bad (if there are any such people, and assuming they wouldn’t have familiarized themselves with BrBa over the years).

I mean, Jimmy was almost entirely facing the music for stuff that he did on another series that is only briefly touched upon on this series. The fallout for Howard’s death is really only a factor for Kim (considering the much bigger offenses on Jimmy’s rap sheet). Gus and Mike drop off with little fanfare and only a casual mention by Jimmy that they’re already dead by the Gene time period.

Granted, this is the internet age and anyone out of the loop could just look this **** up on Wikipedia or binge Breaking Bad if they haven’t already, but it is funny to think that some people might have been thrown for a loop.

I listen to The Watch podcast a while ago (maybe when the season started) and they did mention how they know some people who never saw Breaking Bad but were loving Better Call Saul. Not sure how they are feeling about the final episodes but yeah I am curious what they think.

I like Succession but it's kind of garbage it beat Better Call Saul or even Squid Game imo. Probably 2023 will give Better Call Saul the awards.

What a travesty. For me this puts a nail in the coffin to these kind of award shows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Better Call Saul eligible again next year since the back half of the final season aired after 2022 eligibility? As long as Succession premieres next summer or later that should clear the path for BCS a bit.

Either way the Emmy voters are notorious for sticking with awarding the same show for years in a row, whether it deserves it or not. However, I know a robbery when I see one and there was nothing to report here. Julia Garner deserved that award as much as Rhea Seehorn. Succession is every bit as good of a show as Better Call Saul. It's fierce competition because a good majority of the shows being nominated these days are actually great and deserving of winning, but such as the nature of the beast, they can't all win.

I'm guessing this gets the LOTR treatment and the final run will be awarded with damn near everything.

Watching Gremlins right now and seeing Jonathan Banks this young almost makes me uncomfortable.

if you want to see a REALLY young Jonathan, if you CAN, find an old 1970's sci-fiish series he was in called Otherworld, I believe it was called... his character was a real piece of work named Commander Nuveen Kroll...
