But...TDK came out a year ago. It's actually kind of odd there's still toys out in the first place. Retailers need room for the movie toys of this summer.

I know, just saying that because it was successful one would think retailers would still be carrying much of the movie's merchandise. But hopefully some retailers have back stock of TDK toys on clearance. There's still a ton of MM figures I need to get and I'm seeked out the MM Batpod, hard as it is to find.

Yeah, but what about this from a poster at the Toynewsi boards:

I got this e-mail for all 2 and half waves of the new Movie Masters
(which I placed as soon as they went on sale). I wonder if Mattel is
never releaseing Two Face, Proto Batman, and the new Jokers now?:

notified by the manufacturer that we will not be receiving any additional shipments of Batman: The Dark Knight Movie Masters Wave 5 Case, (Item MTP6167A), because they have discontinued production of this item at this point in time. The item has been removed from your order.

For JLU, I gave up when I had a box full of extra Batman and Superman
figures from 3 packs, around like 15 or 20 a piece, to get "new" kit
bashed, warped figure with next to no articulation.
For DCUC, you basically can't even buy them in a store, and if you
order them online you don't know if they'll have the right limbs or
be painted by a kindergarten class.
Movie Masters actually seemed a fairly high quality wave, besides the
poor distribution, huge gaps between waves, and obnoxious chase
figures. If they canceled Two-Face, I think this will help me drop
DCUC and all of their products.

wow,never really took into perspective that it's been over a year since these came out...the anticipation,the frustration,the joy,the fights...

i was lucky...i had heard that a TRU in Chicago accidently put these out in mid-April,only for them to ring up as "Not for sale",and that the manager said they can't go out til May 1st....for nearly a week before that i kept checking WM here as some stores around the country had broken the date embargo,but nothing to be found...

i woke up on Thursday,May 1st and headed right to WM...again,nothing,just some of the crappy 5" deluxe light up ****...headed to Wilkes-Barre,PA...hit WM there,but nothing at all,nothing TDK....hit Target,again nothing....got to TRU early and saw about 4 people waiting in line for the store to open..uh oh!...they opened at 10: AM and the guys ran right to the Hot Wheels aisle - the fools! i ran back to where tha action figures were and...NOTHING! just some Kung Fu Panda and Prince Caspian....dejected,i walked around i couldn't believe that no one,no where,hadn't put these out...i was preparing to leave and try another TRU about 25 minutes up the road in Dickson City,when one of the workers asked me if i needed help,so i told her i was looking for TDK (and Indiana Jones,as my son's birthday was in 10 days and he was Indy obsessed)...she took me by the arm and took me to a side aisle near the front of the store where they had Indy,then TDK 5" stuff,and at the end a whole 3 pegs (!) set aside for MM...i saw 1 Thug,3 Batman's,and gloriously 1 Joker! to say i was happy was an understatement! grabbed a 12" Indy for my son and headed to the register,where the same chick rang me out...then she threw me a curveball: they only got 2 cases in,and she grabbed a set for herself,so i literally got the only Joker and Thug available to the public! i would've *****ed,but:

a) i was too happy i found them.
b) she may have only been about 17 or 18,but had THE best push up bra/ V-neck shirt combo i ever saw in my life,and i was completely transfixed by those boobies! t:

it would be nearly 2 months til i saw ANY Movie Masters on the pegs again,when series 2 started to hit.....

so,what memories do you have from the launch of Movie Masters? good,bad,ugly, let's hear em!

I remember May 1st 2008 very well. I had woken up extra early to head out to my toys r us. When i got there i was the only one in line. I nearly crapped myself to think that i would be the only one here possibly getting my whole set of movie masters. A half hour or so passed and 2 more people showed up. I started to get a little nervous but i was still so very excited. Luckily i have been going to this toys r us for time now and i spoke to the manager to try to figure out where they would be setting the displays up for the new summer movie toys. 9:00 am hits and the doors open, the other two collectors bolt it to the hot wheels isle and i am the only one to hit the front displays in the stores. I turn the corner and there is The Dark Knight display!!! Movie masters were sitting on the shelf just waiting for me and so was The Joker with that grin of his. I was shaking from the excitement. Behind the joker was another joker and then behind him was the thugs. Atleast 5 of them with 4 of them having different masks but ofcourse i didnt know this until after i left the store. Behind the thugs were 3 get this 3 unmasked batman chase figures!!! I jaw hit the floor. I said to myself how could i have gotten this lucky. So i got myself a little basket and filled it with a fresh brand new set of Movie masters and few extras. I spoke to the manager after i had calmed myself and asked how many cases they got in. He said they only received 4 cases and i told him that it was very strange that they received 3 unmasked figures. Seeing as how rare those things were and i suppose still are. The manager said that the only thing that his stock boy wanted was a joker figure and a regular dark knight figure so i was pretty happy he left the rest for me. Needless to say that goes down as one of my best collecting days in a very very long time. The other two collectors came waltzing back from the hot wheel isle with nothing and they saw me with my basket full of Movie masters and asked what are those? I replied oh just some batman figures you guys wouldnt like lol. Ha hahaha but i had the last laugh. It was a very very good day indeed.

as much as i'd LOVE to say this confirms them,it doesn't....toy history is littered with the test shots of figures never produced (indeed,there is a very big secondary market for them)....i hope,no pray you're right,i really do...but at this point i won't feel safe til i see actual in package shots of these...

I notice the scarring detail on that Joker prototype toy looks more detailed and grisly than the finished product.

Thats what i hear as well. Im sure Mattel will just be announcing that they will become mattycollector.com exlusive. There obviously not smart enough to re imagine the line and re pitch it to retailers so they will just go the easy route and slap them on mattycollector for $20.00 bucks a pop plus shipping. With a license as huge as Batman they just keep screwing it up over and over again. They could learn a lesson or 2 from Hasbro. They refresh there line every year to keep the interest going, and all they do is change the packaging and give the line a new name. But i suppose thats to hard for Mattel.

By hasbro's line i obviously meant star wars which is going 31 years strong in toy form ever since those empty early bird kits were released back in 1978. And to think all the great rich history that batman has. What a shame Mattel what a shame.

Could be. So far, the only one to say it's totally dead has been ONE dealer, Entertainment Earth. I'll wait for an official announcement from Mattel.

Just a heads up im sure most of you know already but the new 12inch Joker is available for pre-order at toys r us.com It has a release date of June 19th. There is a direct link on Mattycollector.com when you click on "News" the joker will be the first thing to pop up. I suppose this sorta sheds some light for us on any new dark knight product. The figure is the prototype pictured above with the hair draped over one side of his face.
