Which is the better trilogy, discuss.

First Class > X-men

DOFP = X2

Apocalypse = TLS

I guess The FC trilogy, given FC's superiority over the original.

I haven't seen Apocalypse yet, but I like first two original trilogy movies better than the the first two prequel trilogy movies. Apocalypse would have to be a much much better film than The Last Stand to put the PT ahead of the OT.

X-Men may be dated, and First Class was welcome turn around for the franchise, but there's several things that keep it below the original movie, X2, and DoFP. Sidelined characters and characterization, continuity transgressions, and one specific part of the finale which was otherwise pretty awesome. First Class may have Fassbender, but X-Men has McKellan, Stewart, and Jackman.

I'll hold off on voting until after the latest film, to be sure.

They're pretty even in my book. X2,FC and DoFP are great,X1 is good,X3 and Apoc are mediocre.

X1 is good, X2 is great, X3 was blah...

FC is pretty good, DoFP is great, Apocalypse is okay...

So I say the prequel trilogy. ;)

New trilogy easily the only really good one from the original trilogy was X2

As much as I love DOFP, it took the OT to get there.
The OT felt like it had a lot more stories to tell even with so many "dead" and depowered or was just fine to end the series right there and then.
So, OT.

Um my first inclination is definitely the new trilogy. A lot more colorful action and costumes, much more diverse character development (more than just Wolvie), etc. Portrays a lot more confidence than the old trilogy. X1 and X3 are very meh imo. X2 is great but lacks in that colorful action and diversity. Its basically a Wolverine trilogy.

The new trilogy feels more like the comics/cartoons. Magneto/Xavier make better main characters than Wolverine in a story about mutant kind. Since Cyclops is so absent from the old trilogy, I can't blame the new trilogy for the same. The focus on Mystique is strange, but it works in context.

So lets talk numbers. I know that at least Apocalypse may shift on repeat viewings and such, but I know that the original trilogy rankings are actually boosted by the new trilogy (specifically DoFP).

X1 - 5.5
X2 - 7.5
X3 - 5.0
18/30

FC - 7.5
DoFP - 8.5
A - 8.0
24/30

I don't really care for "prequel" type films usually, but I did enjoy First Class and DoFP. Just didn't like that they were set so many years in the past and weren't moving the story forward. But on the other hand, the OT films were moving the story forward in a bad way (with X-men 3). This makes it pretty hard to decide. Both trilogies have problems with only putting the focus on certain characters, or on uninteresting characters (mystique), or just messing up the characters that they do focus on.
I think I prefer the OT just by a bit.

You kids and your numbers. :p

FC trilogy due to it not having X3. X3 was crap and between it and Wolverine: Origins, nearly killed the franchise so bad they had to reboot.

FC was okay but not great and didn't have a lot of Wolverine which was good. DoFP was more Wolverine-centric which was annoying but the rest was really neat. Apocalypse was well done and also didn't have much Wolverine which made it better than DoFP. :p

X1 is decent. X2 is the best of the trilogy and neat. X3 is garbage. Also, X3 lead to Barakapool in W: Origins which killed off the character for movie potential for a decade. Boo!

Winner: FC Trilogy by a mile.

The McAvoy/Fassbender trilogy by a long shot. First Class is a great movie, Days of Future Past is in my opinion the best X-Men movie to date, and this may be an unpopular opinion, but I thought X-Men: Apocalypse was better than the first X-Men. And it's sheer lunacy to think that The Last Stand is better than Apocalypse in any way, shape or form. X2 is still great, but it really is the main standout of the first trilogy and the other two pretty much pale in comparison. So with that, I give it to the newer trilogy.

First Class is better than X-Men. I put X-Men 2 and Days of Future Past on the same level, both brilliant, but I favor DOFP slightly more. X-Men Apocalypse is definitely better than The Last Stand.

So the new trilogy for me.

Ori, my score above 9/10 just X-Men 2

New, my score above 9/10 is X-Men DOFP and X-Men FC

New Trilogy Rules

Definitely the new trilogy. If The Last Stand hadn't been such a pile of garbage it might be different. But as it stands (heh) despite the greatness of X2 and the quality of the original film, the "First Class Trilogy" is more consistent. Apocalypse has its problems but it's certainly better than TLS and DOFP is great and First Class is good in its own right.

The First Class trilogy. Right off the bat, FC trilogy has an advantage, because the Original Trilogy has the worst X-Men film: The Last Stand. And FC has the best X-Men film: DoFP. X-Men (2000) is a great adventure film, but I believe all three of the FC stomp it. X2: United is great, but a bit unenjoyable too watch IMO. Still great, but not as fun.

New trilogy. There are two great movies in it (FC and DOFP) and one average one with a few great moments (Apocalypse).

The original trilogy had one great movie (X2), one decent one (X1), and an awful stain on the genre (TLS). Also, the acting was overall of a much higher caliber in the FC trilogy sans January Jones. While Hugh Jackman is truly iconic as Logan, and Stewart and McKellen are perfect, I think McAvoy and Fassbender have also left their stamps on the characters. I also think even as second bananas in the third film, Apocalypse's Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler were all better than the OT's versions of them.

So overall, this is an easy vote.

If we are giving scores:

X1: 7.5/10
X2: 8.5/10
X3: 3/10
Total: 19/30

FC: 9/10
DOFP: 9/10
Apocalypse: 7/10
Total: 25/30

Again an easy vote.

The original X-Men is my favorite of the bunch, followed by The Last Stand (after the initial disappointment of it).

I'm not as big on X2 as I find the last act overlong and dull, but I still prefer it to Jennifer Lawrence's obnoxious screen presence as Raven in FC/DOFP.

Apocalypse is not out yet where I live, but even if it's brilliant, my vote goes to the original trilogy.

They're pretty well balanced for me.

The original film is a bit dated and basic, whereas First Class is clearly rushed. They're both good though.

X2 and DOFP are on the same level for me, and the best of each trilogy.

The Last Stand and Apocalypse are weak for different reasons. Apocalypse is better I'd say but not by much. Not in a rush to watch either again, in fact I plan to make an X3 edit utilising Jean/Scott/Xavier material from Apocalypse as flashbacks.

I call it a wash. First Class is better than X-Men, while X2 is better than DOFP.

X-Men - 8
X2 - 9
X-Men: TLS - 4

First Class - 8
Days of Future Past - 9
Apocalypse - ?

X-Men > First Ass
X2 > X-Men: Expository Dialogue... I mean, DOFP
and I have yet to see Apoc, but reviews are putting it in the TLS wheelhouse

so I'm going original

suck it haters :woot::o:oldrazz:

First Class Trilogy

1. Little Wolverine focus.

2. McAvoy and Fassbender are amazing, with an often likable supporting cast.

3. FC and DOFP are my two favorite X-Films.

4. TLS is garbage. No FC trilogy film is as insulting as TLS.

Apocolypse is much better than the Last Stand, but the first two X-men movies continue to be my favorites.

I think the reboot trilogy is hampered by having the films set 10 years apart, yet no one really ages. The story of Charles and Moira was extremely ridiculous considering 20 years had passed when they last knew each other and "she hasn't aged a day!" Yeah no kidding Charles, and neither have you.

Having said that, I feel the reboot trilogy is a more complete film saga. TLS so undercuts the groundwork laid out in the first two films.
