Anyone have any more... I keep forgetting all the "LIVE-ACTION" movies out there that are based, or partially based on comicbooks. I should probably kick the Shadow out of there, I dunno. More, less? What do you think? I'm trying to steer clear of made-for-tv movies. There's a Justice League of America and Flash I'd put up. I remember the Dr. Strange, Spiderman, and Hulk series of made-for-tv's too. Cool stuff.

    CURRENT "BOX-OFFICE" MOVIES:

    (1966) BATMAN: The Movie
    (1966) MODESTY BLAISE
    (1967) ---- no comic-based movies released ----

(1977) THE INCREDIBLE HULK [note: limited theatrical release / tv]

    (1979) ---- no comic-based movies released ----
    (1980) POPEYE

    Thanks, 3dman.

To anyone: did 1981 and 1988 really exist as the two years (post Superman) with NO comic/cartoon2film releases? They seem so lonely up there. Things definitely seemed to HEAT UP after the debut of the Hulk & Superman the following year. I'm guesing 1988 was the calm before the next storm. :p

No cartoons. Only counting live action. Also, no serials. They're not "feature-length" films. They're a dime a dozen. Also, no "made for tv" movies either. Maybe that makes more sense?

    I think you mean " (1968) Barbarella"

Asterix and Obelix is missing too

Come to think of it, your list is probably only half way complete . . .

    The Addams Family
    Addams Family Values

Damn, I wish I could remember more, but some of the films are pretty obscure in include a number of French and Italian titles.

    Edit: removed entry

Ummm No. Sorry, not even close.

Karate Kid is actually Val Armorr, a citizen of 30th-Century Earth and a member of DC's Legion of Super-Heroes. That movie had nothing to do with the comics.

Superman and myself are currently working on a project that will detail every single movie ever made based on a comic. There are waaaaaay more than you'd think.

The second you enter movies that are "Direct-to-Video", "Made-for-TV", "Animated", Manga-based Anime, and Foreign films, it virtually mushroom clouds. I agree (especially regarding the more obscure items).

My reason for the list was looking specifically at live-action feature films, to see what impact comics in the United States have had on the creation of feature films. BoxOfficeMojo is nice. So much data out there. Always nice to see how someone else collects and displays it.

TIMECOP was based on a Dark Horse comic.

...and it got a short lived series on ABC and a direct to dvd sequel.

Well for right now all we are doing is live action movies, TV shows and serials based on comics from the US.

We haven't started on the live action foreign films. Nor are we doing animated or anime yet.

    It's still a very long list. :)

Especially with serials and the legions of TV shows. Some of those old serials were really short, but must have been something special to grab the imagination. It's fun to talk to the older folks about how that used to be.

True. However, there are plenty of books and resources which attempt to list every horror or sci-fi film; and there must be more of either genre than superhero/comicbook movies.
