BILLY'S Art Work!!!

Here was my entry to July contest.

Everything is done using the pen tool, except the webb in the background.

oh yeah, i remember that one. good work. just remember with pics from the net, unless they are high resolution, they can be tricky to read close up, sometimes you have to make stuff up, or guess. that web might give ya problems, haha.

its all mostly mouse.... cant aford the good stuff, haha

No way man. I have a tablet at both work and home and about 99% of the time when I do stuff like that I use a mouse. For me the tablet is used for drawing and painting....when I color my drawings I'm basically coloring it using vector art so a tablet is not needed. Almost every single piece of art I've posted here was done with a mouse....even my "Batman 1865" one I did last week.

Tablets are good to have for things like Photoshop, but a mouse is ideal for vector art....at least what I think.

This is gonna make me sound so stupid, but what is vector art?

you cant really do art like this in photoshop, one of the most common digital art forms. mostly used with adobe illustrator

can be resized and never loose its look, can resize to any size!

and it can give photos a cool new look that photoshop just cant do.

This is a pic i colored (using illustrator) of a redesign of Pit from the Kid Icarus Video Game

It took me Forever, partly because my computer sux, so dont be surprised if you see it in more than one thread, cuz im sorta proud of it.

Hey Billy could you explain the pen tool to me, i cant get the grasp of it. all the stuff ive been doing has been outlined with the line-segment tool and colored in with the Paintbrush tool.

hmmm
well. you use the pen tool to make outlines almost of the shape you want to color in. best thing to do is either have no color with your pen took at first, have both color options ( line and shape) at none. make a line on the shape you want, for example, take a picture of a spade..... you follow with your pen took the outer shape of the spade with what they call anchor points. you can also take these points bend them out to make the line, this will make it more smooth and seem more realistic. it wont look so choppy.

for best practice its best to start with simple objects till you can get is all right and feel comfortable with it.

then you need to learn functions like combine and transform shape n stuff like that, make it alot easier for you to keep track of what your doing. and dont forget

layers, layers, layers

dont be afraid to use alot of layers, my jla pic as of right now is 25 layers.

Hmmm.....that's the only thing I ever disagreed with when it came to Illustrator. Layers can be helpfull, but can also be a major pain in the ass. ALL of my artwork is one on a single layer.....it's all about knowing where to paste things.

But either way works.

i think its becouse me n you got a different style. yaknow. but either way works, i just like being able to turn off layers to see things and then turn it back on. i label them to know whats what. it was how i was tought and the other way just seems to much of a headack for me.

oh and your superman desktop is on its way, today for sure. havent really been home lately, been busy, sorry.

here is the superman wallpapers you wanted SOB, if you want them changed, let me know, i did two.

i dont know why, but the second one saved smaller, if you want that one, ill go back n make it larger, or you can, dont matter to me, sorry.

Hah. 25 layers? I have some stuff that's something like 50 or more layers. I think that my Star Wars Death Star/Falcon pic has like 68.

I've been a friend of billy for quite some time now, and i have to say that i didnt quite appreciate the quality of his work till i saw the steps and the intricacies of the ACTUAL designs. I went through most of this thread and all the artwork is unique and really enjoyable to view. Just ask billy how many of his comics ive borrowed and digested in rabid fashion. This thread is a sweet deal, you all help each other out. Way to be fellas, way to be. All that from an artistically ******ed individual. Oh yeah, check out onlinecomics.net, ive killed many nights starring at my computer screen jamming to punk. Billy boy, dont forget about the tat either fool.
