Why oh why! Are they F***ing up Bishop's storyline and character.

Now I'm not saying anything to offend any anybody, but why is Bishop getting lighter? Did anybody else notice? Hmm, that's that s*** right there. A character that gains extreme popularity, and now look what's happening.

From Black to white in only a few panels! That's right folks you too can turn a black superhero white, just get him/her famous. :cmad:

I agree that Messiah Complex was a real kick in the balls for Bishop. They made the character do a complete 180 in every way.

I dont think he looks white there. If you want to see a more serious change, check out the coloring on Monet. She looks pretty much caucasion in most of her recent appearances since X-factor debuted

Oh and I hated what they did with Bishop. I have no idea why they went and ruined him like that bc to me it seems like a new character

i hate what they did to him, he was pretty cool before but now they are writing him as a homicidial maniac. bishop wasnt this hell bent when he thought that gambit betrayed the x-men. so why now?

Hmm, that's that s*** right there
You said it. that was the FIRST thing i noticed when i read cable 1. really sad, one of the few cool and most popular african american characters in comics and he's getting turned white!?! :csad:

I don't think he's being turned white in this instance. That art style just has a very washed out look to it.

yeah, they pretty much ****ed Bishop hard with no kiss, dinner or lube. acting completely out of character..that and they de-armed him in order to give him a cyber arm

I'm glad to hear that I ain't the only one mad about his drastic change, and yeah the cybernetic arm thing was really uncalled for.

After years of ditching Bishop's "Black Cable" comparisons, it looks like they're just saying "screw it. He's the opposite of Cable in every way!"

Quite a few black characters are getting lighter skin tones, these days. I think it's because colorists don't know what to do with dark skin. I've noticed that when a few color in lighting and shadow differences, the skin tone the character should have ends up in the shadows.

He looks like a fugged up Vin Diesel....but at least he's still distinguishable the M on the eye helps..

I don't know about turning him White necessarily, but I was disappointed to see him with the cybernetic arm after having it bitten off by that creature. I also didn't like the fact that his costume greatly reflected Cable's. As far as skin tones go, it is a very sad fact that the media at large prefers to work with lighter skinned people (be it fictional or real). Is it too far fetched to imagine when the first Black woman to win a leading role Oscar in a film, turned out to be half black (Halle Berry)? Even more sad is the role that won her the Oscar.

These are the struggles that comic companies and the media in general, continue to face. I'll give Warner Bros. some credit though. At least with their Justice League animated series, they chose John Stewart over the more popular Hal Jordan. It shows that there is an awareness of the problem. Also, Marvel has put their dollars behind a Luke Cage film. He is a Marvel C-lister at best, even with him being in New Avengers. That shows more faith than one would expect at this point.

except John Stewart...a brown skinned man was set to be played by rapper Common, who is MUCH lighter in tone, lighter than Berry. Mulatto-ish even

That might just be a convention of the times. With Tyrese locked up with Fast and the Furious 4, Transformers 2 and prospectively in Luke Cage, there are not too many other "high profile" African American leads that would be age appropriate for the role. There are superior African American actors, but not enough that are both young, appropriate and well known. Common is starting to gain momentum thanks to films like American Gangster, Smoking Aces etc. I am not saying he is the only option, but he is a better option than just choosing an unknown (which did not work with Superman Returns). I do get your ultimate point however, about Hollywood choosing lighter actors rather than darker ones.

Ultimate Nick fury was supposed to appear in the Iron Man film. I think Jackson was tied up in another film at the time, though, and wasn't available so the cameo got cut. I've heard rumors he's going to be in the new Hulk movie too since it also references SHIELD.

Ah, yes. The one factor that ruined Superman Returns' box office intake was the fact that nobody had heard of Brandon Routh. It had nothing to do with the movie's plot somehow being a sequel to Superman II and a remake of Superman The Movie at the same time, the prospect of Superman having a kid, the overall boringness of the movie (I didn't think it'd be possible to have less fight scenes than Fantastic Four, but they did it), or the fact that Brandon Routh both looks like and is younger than the Clark Kent on Smallville.

Nope. It was because nobody had ever heard of Brandon Routh. Surely a mediocre movie with a few famous actors would be box office gold. Like Daredevil or Ghost Rider.

Jackson made a (very brief) appearance, but to see it you had to stay after the credits. It hints at one of Marvel's upcoming movies.

Ah, yes...you eliminated the context and contorted a single statement I made in order to suit your sardonic diatribe. Never did I say that it was the only factor. I never even said that it was a factor in the films "box office intake." In fact I don't recall once saying that Superman Returns was a bad film. I merely said that Brandon Routh did not work out that well in the role of Superman.

The idea of this thread is abouth the aesthetic of fictional characters. In regards to Brandon Routh, many movie and comic fans shared the complaint that Routh was lacking both in acting and the physical stature to convey the belief that he was truly the iconic DC hero. While Common does come up short as being a lighter African American being chose to portray a darker skinned character (not matching the full aesthetic), he at least has some what proven his acting chops as a choice from what I view as the limited pool of known, young and respectable African American actors (there are better African American actors, but not many of them young enough or fit enough to portray John Stewart).

If your aim was to see a fool, then please sir, look no further than the closest mirror. If your goal was to make an enemy, I do my best to make few. If you wanted to appear intelligent then you seem to have failed on that front as well. I did not bother you, so please do not bother me. If you so choose to verbally assail me again, at least make sure that your thought process exceeds a simple postulation that was drawn from a heavily out of context statement. With that said, I leave you to your devices.

It appears I've made a mistake. I assumed you meant the public lack of familiarity with Brandon Routh had an effect on Superman Returns' financial success, while it seems you meant that Brandon Routh's peformance was lacking. However, I quite easily interpreted your statement to mean that Routh's "unknown" status was a factor. If you believe so, then I respectfully disagree. If I'm incorrect, then... there we are. I'm not gonna drag this out into some huge online debate. I'm sure both you can I have better crap to do. Personally, I have to find another way to shoehorn a negative opinion about the movie Southland Tales into another thread. Oh, there we go.

Was Bishop's character given the screws? Oh yeah. But welcome to the club. Many a character has been assasinated over the years through bad writing.

But turning him white? I feel like you're pushing it there. A lot. Artists will all have their own take on Bishop. Some will draw him lighter, but only because their style dictacts that. In the end, he's still an African American. It's ****ing art.... don't overreact.

I haven't stopped b****ing about M. I won't stop with Bishop.

But I'll continue to buy Cable's comic, because I'm difficult.

Damn Arach knight...just..wow...i think i have fallen inlove all over again...sorry El bastardo...hmm, maybe i can shoehorn you two into a verbal debate...because the way yall use words makes me..well

and I'm with manic...they ****ed up M and now they are doing the same to bishop...artist depiction my ass. there is NO WAY going into drawing him that they can disregard him being darker skinned....those choices are deliberate.

A clear case of misunderstanding as it were. I withdrawl the vitirol stance I took with you Manic. Upon hearing your perspective, I can imagine that it would be an easy conjecture to make and not just a postulation. I was just taken back by the greeting of so much sarcasm from your reply. Consider this situation tabula rasa. Nice to meet you by the way.

Nice to meet you as well. Welcome to the Hype, by the way.

All love I make is sweet. Also rough.

...wow...and exciting all the same...WHERE are Spoons with his man-grease and Bastard when i need them?
