Let's be honest here. The Rock wouldn't make this announcement for a movie that is till 2019. So I think he will appear either on BvS or JL.
But what do you think?

I doubt it, as it would tie BvS or JL with Shazam solo film and I can't see that happening for several reasons:

1. "Shazam" movie will have noticeably different tone than the rest of the DCCU, as (if I'm not mistaken, that is) Dwayne Johnson said himself and as should be expected.

2. It would be a bit strange to have a villain from "Shazam" movie making an appearance and Shazam himself not appearing and joining a JL. And I don't think he'd join since there's a problem of ethical nature with having an eight-year old kid regularly risking his life in the JL. I can't even imagine Marvel, which is much more lighthearted, doing something like this, much less a more serious DC.

3. Another reason for Shazam not becoming a part of JL is because he's too much Superman-like, actually **** political correctness... he's an exact rip-off of the much more known and better character. I don't think they'd bring the guy with the exact same powerset as Superman in the JL, since it would be a disservice to a character of Superman. Besides, having two such powerhouses in the team is definitely way too much power.
He doesn't even have to join JL, simply appearing in few scenes in the movie with Superman would be jarring enough.

And before someone argues that Wonder Woman and Aquaman also possess similar powers to Superman, I must notice that they also have very striking qualities that differentiate them from him. Aquaman has some unique abilities like that of telepathically affecting marine animals and the fact that he's from water-based civilization makes him quite distinctive.

Wonder Woman has very specific style of fighting due to the fact that she's a trained warrior and that she uses cold weapons, lasso and bracelets in fight.

Shazam's fighting style is exactly like Supermans. He flies and hits with his fists.

So, as I already said, to bring Black Adam and completely ignore Shazam would be quite strange and it seems better and much more sensible not to connect those movies at all than to connect them just partially.

Don't agree... First New52 Shazam has a completely different personality than Superman's. his powerset is different from Superman's also. The Zeus thunder is one example of the difference. It's like people who compares also MM with Superman.
The thing here is not him joining the JL.maybe as a threat or a reference. or he could be added to fight the common enemie for JL. TOO MANY SCENARIOS...
Black Adam existed thousands of years ago, so him being in this universe before Shazam is not unlikely to happen.
Superman's powers are sci fi. Shazams and Black Adams are magical....

IMAGINE A FIGHT BETWEEN CAVILL'S SUPERMAN AND ROCKS ADAM!!! IN JL :hubba :hubba

You do make some fine points, surely, though I can't agree with your notion that it's like comparing Superman with Martian Manhunter. Manhunter clearly has some unique abilities like shapeshifting and telepathy.
I'm not familiar with New 52 version of Shazam, but I'll believe you if you say that he has a bit more unique powerset nowadays.

Also, beside Shazam joining the JL, there's also a "problem" with taking the character from a movie that has quite different tone, as it was said by Johnson that will be the case. But I admit that without knowing much else of the tone of that film or anything else, everything is a speculation right now, so I can't claim that it definitely wouldn't work.

And about the sci-fi vs magical powersets, I find that it's not the origin of them that matters as much as the way they manifest. What should be considered is do two characters look almost the same in fight or not. But you have already corrected me about Shazam, so I'm acknowledging the difference between the two right now.

And finally, I do agree that it would be great to see Cavill's Superman fighting Johnson's Black Adam!

Believe me... there are people that says that Martian Manhunter is a ripoff of Superman (alien, martian vision from heat vision, superstrenght, superspeed flight).. Shazam and Superman's powerset are only flight, superspeed and superstrenght, the same as many other heroes don't you think? :oldrazz:

The tone of the movie doesn't mean the character wouldn't fit. What matters is the background of the character. while I don't think Shazam will be in the main roster, I think Black Adam will appear before the 2019, at least I think in that way.

You should read Geoff Johns Shazam.. It's a really good issue. :)

Well, that really makes no sense, considering that Martian Manhunters more recognizable powers are the ones he doesn't share with Superman, like telepathy and shapeshifting. But it doesn't surprise me, not really. :woot:

Shazam and Superman are much more similar in that matter though, both of their main powers are flight, superstrength and superspeed, but there's plenty of characters who have solely those powers beside Shazam, though they all surely have been based on Superman to some extent.

Well made point.

And I'm starting to agree with you about the possibility of Black Adam appearing earlier, it is definitely strange to make and announce his casting so early.

Maybe, one day... *whistles* :whatever:

Seriously, though, I'll consider it at some point, but I won't be reading any comics anytime soon. I don't have much time for that right now, I'm afraid.

I think once BvS brings in the #'s at the box office DC will be more willing to bring in Shazam to the DCCU. It doesn't make sense not to. Supes vs Black Adam and the inevitable Supes vs The Big Cheese would be gold. Shazam gives sonething that no other Superhero can offer atm. A child super hero! Kids will eat that up maybe thats why they wanna keep him separate because I think he'll steal the whole Justice League movie.

Dwayne Johnson ‏@TheRock 2 h
Can't wait to play BLACK ADAM. We'll find that anti-hero balance of ruthless rip your throat out w/ wonderful charm.. #ROCKTALK @Dosteguin

Can't wait for 2019? He's gonna appear before Shazam!! Mark my words!!!

The Rock will not play Black Adam in any DC film other then Shazam. WB want's Shazam to be lighter in tone and not be overly serious. They feel that because of this that it would not fit with the other DC films so they are choosing to put Shazam in his own universe if you will. This has been stated in almost every single article that has been released about Shazam.

I have posted articles where WB has released statements on this matter in the Shazam forums. I know what your going to say John-An that those articles are outdated. Only a few of those articles are back in Sept. On top of that there has not been a single article that shows any indication of WB changing there mind on that.

On a personal front I think it's a great idea to keep it separate. I have no doubt the DC films will be great but everything they are doing is about being overly serious and dark. I'm glad they are making at least one film that isn't overly dark and serious.

WTF means that "overly serious" (to you) means Shazam can't be in this DCCU? :funny: Then the Flash, Jimmy Olsen can. This DCCU is on a serious tone yes, and yeah I'm glad that it's not as childish as some want... but that doesn't mean it can't have lighthearted characters.

Black Adam is not the same as Shazam second yes, your opinion is based on outdated things because it's CONFIRMED FEW DAYS AGO by DCComics that Shazam is in the DCCU. ALL THE MOVIES THAT WERE ANNOUNCED ARE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE.

BTW isn't it odd from The Rock if it's announcing his role for a 2019 movie?

And just to finish here it comes the NEWS!! ;)

Yes, there were rumors of some sort of film slate, mentions that Warner Bros. had “big plans” for DC Entertainment and occasional informal announcements (like the news that New Line had a Shazam movie in development). But for fans who were hoping to see a DC Cinematic Universe similar to what they’ve seen from other publishers, one that included super heroes other than Superman or Batman, there didn’t seem to be a lot to talk about.
That changed on October 15, 2014, when Warner Bros. revealed a full slate of ten DC Entertainment feature films. The list included the movies we were hoping to see—Wonder Woman will get her own film, while the Justice League will get TWO movies. However, it also included quite a few surprises. A standalone Cyborg movie! A Flash feature starring Ezra Miller! A Suicide Squad movie! And coming in 2016, no less!!
There’s something to interest just about every DC Comics fan, but perhaps what’s most interesting is what’s largely missing: Batman and Superman. True, the whole thing kicks off with Batman v Superman and Warner Bros. has stated that both heroes have standalone movies in development, but over the next six years, other heroes and villains will get their time in the spotlight. It all suggests that seven years from now, the DC Comics super heroes you hear children pretending to be in parks and schoolyards may be considerably different than the ones you do today.

Sorry for breaking your dream :O
