DC Films Black Canary film in development at HBO Max

I'm happy to see Birds of Prey not totally tossed aside but can't help but notice this "cheaper, no theaters, direct to HBO Max" initiative so far has a pattern to it. Happy it's existing though.

Are you referring to the fact that all the HBO Max movies are starring POC characters?

Happy to see not everything about the Harley/BoP movie is being tossed aside, they had some solid castings in that movie, and Black Canary is a character with a lot of potential. Getting a Smollett led Canary project is also nice consolation for Lovecraft Country's cancellation as well.

Do they even have any DC films planned for the actual theater at this point? Maybe Superman who is likely to be a POC

Cool, I have my issues with the BOP movie but it is still the DCEU film I’ve liked the most.

Cool. Just need a Huntress movie and then team them back up in another Birds of Prey with Batgirl.

While I can't help but notice that all the upcoming HBOMax projects are starring POC, I won't scoff at good news that we're getting a continuation of the Birds of Prey characters.

Just to clarify though, it's not like WB isn't putting POC in major vehicles so I'm not too concerned yet. I can't ignore that Will Smith and Idris Elba both headlined the Suicide Squad movies and of course there's The Rock for Black Adam.

I liked her in the role she just wasn’t giving much to do but I’m excited to see where she goes. Since Journee is biracial who do you guys think they should cast as the original Canary?

I would love to see how their story/relationship plays out. Also this would be a chance to final get an actual portrayal of Green Arrow!

Yes to Wildcat! Maybe he can be like a surrogate father that took her in, raised/trained her after mother died.

I’m hoping we get Wild Cat but more importantly Green Arrow. I was not a fan of BOP but did like Black Canary and Huntress. Maybe Huntress will pop up.

I'd like him to be introduced as Oliver Queen in the film and allude to Green Arrow towards the end for a sequel

I wonder if Green still plans on doing the Tomb Raider sequel. ...Or is that project quietly dying?

I'm glad Jurnee is reprising the role. I was hoping for a BOP sequel on HBO Max, but this is just as good.

If Green Arrow does appear, I wonder if they'll have a POC actor play him.

But yeah, putting quite a few solo POC heroes on HBO Max isn't a good look.

You can mention Will Smith and Idris Elba, and even Ray Fisher if you buy the idea that Cyborg is the lead in TSC, but those Suicide Squad and JL films are all ensemble films.

It's also not a good look that the POC leads they have had, Jason Momoa and The Rock, are light skinned and look ethnically ambiguous.

I see what you’re saying. But I think WB has done a good job with diversity thus far. I think putting this, Blue Beetle, and Batgirl on HBO Max is a good idea. I think they have a better chance at success there. Static should get a theater release though for sure. His supporting cast and rogues gallery would easily support a trilogy.

No way. Just make him Green Arrow. I don’t like the mindset of ‘save it for the sequel’? They have made that mistake too many damn times now. A sequel is never guaranteed, especially with DC.

Wildcat and Green Arrow should be in this 100%.

In hindsight, it would’ve been cool if Jonathan Majors was in this as Ollie. The fanboys would slit their wrist, but alas.
