Well, I watched season 5: I absolutely hated Striking Vipers, thought that was a complete mess (aside from the acting, which was phenomenal: why on god’s green earth didn’t we see that kind of range from Yahya Abdul-Mateen in Aquaman?). Episode 2 was beautiful - truly powerful stuff. Again, great acting. Plenty of suspense too. Episode 3 was my favorite, honestly, just because it was so over the top and ridiculous and Miley Cyrus was such a good actress: this season had some brilliant performances, but hers was the best, I felt. The episode did go very cheesy and almost “Spy Kids” or Disney-Channel towards the end though, which was slightly weird. But the topic of that episode was such a real one: about how young performers are exploited and manipulated.
    I really enjoyed the season.

I've only watched the first two so far. "Striking Vipers" was a miss, but I thought "Smithereens" was great.

Ok, just watched "Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too."

A Black Mirror episode inspired by my favorite Nine Inch Nails song?

Realizing that means witnessing Miley Cyrus butcher said NIN song repeatedly:

In all seriousness though, much like "Hated In the Nation," this felt absolutely nothing like a Black Mirror episode, but was still entertaining? Idk, didn't love it, didn't hate it. Also, seeing my #1 Supergirl pick Angourie Rice show up here was a pleasant surprise. Her character's constant fangirling at the worst moments was amusing.

I thought the driving action in Striking Vipers was hysterical, which probably isn't great. As it progressed, I felt it missed the target on what would have been a more probing topic. The acting performances among the three leads, (particularly Yahya) tried to salvage it all as a whole, but the ep was passable, at best.

Smithereens was predictable, but I was still engaged until the end. The tension and provocative nature was the best of all three episodes easily. The closing action between hostage and hostage-taker didn't work for me, but I liked the open ending because the main point of the ep was something else altogether.

The Miley episode was whatever. I thought things were headed in a darker direction specific to Ashley Too, but no dice.

Black Mirror offerings usually entertain me alongside the thought that technology will **** us all. This installment seemed like a purposefully lighter, even comedic take on the series; more like Grey Mirror. Those tone are present across earlier points in the anthology, but they also hit me with more gravitas. Not a bad three additions, but the bar is pretty high at this point.

I only saw Striking Vipers so far and that was incredible. I almost didn't see the twist coming.

Don't see people's problem with Striking Vipers. Definitely not the best, but far from a terrible/bad episode. The central message to me was more about homosexuality in the black community than some deeper dialogue on porn addiction.

Smithereens was arguably one of the best episodes of this series but haven't seen Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too yet so that could also be one of the best.

I thought the homosexual tinge to it kinda got shot down with the the last confrontation. That and the multiple scenes of Mackie openly lusting after the neighbor. It seemed like the porn connection was stronger.

I liked Striking Vipers, and I agree that Yahya is a much better actor than Aquaman would let on. But I guess that's what happens when you get more direction than "Act angry 100% of the time." Mackie was also good too. Although it was funny watching a movie where Falcon spent the whole time wanting to become the Black Ranger so he could f*** Black Manta as Mantis.

Smithereens was amazing. The ending (or lack thereof) pissed me off initially but it was just so powerful and so well acted that I ultimately didn't mind. Andrew Scott's Moriarty always came off like a poor man's Joker but here he was brilliant. I hope he gets an Emmy nom for that performance. And Topher was great in the episode as well. I'm not always a fan of his (I absolutely HATE his Eddie Brock) but he came off surprisingly human and relatable as a character that I initially thought was just going to be a hipster cliche.

Still haven't watch the Miley episode yet.

I’ve only seen the Striking Vipers episode. That polar bear line killed me.

The Miley episode should only be viewed after you smoke a ton of weed. There is some interesting stuff in there but it tries to do too much and ultimately just feels like a bunch of half-baked ideas. But maybe if you’re really high, you won’t think about it too much and you’ll enjoy it, lol.

Yeah. Also notice how the first scene is about Mackie and the wife indulging in some social role play.

The porn analogy was stronger, but I don't buy Mackie's character's feelings for his friend after they kiss.

Finally finished Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too and it was hands down the worst Black Mirror episode. It's as if Brooker gave up half way through to tell a decent story.

I thought Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too was decent overall. It's not a new concept but I dug what they did with it.

I'd certainly take it over "The Waldo Moment," at least.

Topher Grace has been making some really interesting choices as a actor recently with some smaller roles. I liked his performnces in Smitheerns, Black Kkklansman and Under The Silver Lake.

Not sure why anyone would expect a acting master class from Yahya Abdul-Mateen in Aquaman. I like Aquaman but it wasn't exactly like the role of Black Manta was written to be academy award worthy. Yahya is a Yale Drama school graduate so the guy can act.

I found the Miley episode boring until the twist.

I'm not sure why you didn't buy Mackie's character's feelings. It was his idea to kiss and figure out if they should indulge. He provided himself with an opening and didn't take it.

    Ashley Too jumped the shark
when the robot became sentient. It was funny but it didn't make any sense because how the hell did the robot know that her aunt poisoned her? I suppose it's possible that she could have deduced it but if the real Ashley didn't realize that she would do that to her, how could the robot know? It didn't make any sense.

"Smithereens" is a great piece of rising tension wrapped around a friggin outstanding central performance. Still not sure about that ending though, but I guess that was the point.

Wow something was definitely lacking with this season. I didn't think it was bad though and while I did enjoy enough overall it's pretty weak in comparison to the past seasons IMO. If I could say anything really positive about it it's surely the acting and especially the performances in the first two episodes from Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen Andrew Scott and Topher Grace were all pretty fantastic specially given the weak material they had to work with. It was also pretty cool seeing Franklin from Snowfall in this, and I honestly had no idea the dude was a Brit.

That Miley Cyrus episode was easily the weakest of the bunch, but I at least found it entertaining, although I can see why most wouldn't.

I mean, everything about his delivery after they kissed and he said he didn't feel anything screamed he was lying, so there was that.
