Black Panther The Official News and Speculation Thread - - Part 11

Believe it or not this may turn out not to be just an also run but a dark horse contender. Things I have read so far has it around middling in the top ten contenders but it is still early. Other top contenders like a Star Is Born and Bohemian Rhapsody have their shares of criticism mainly about story telling and structure. Roma seems to be generally liked but strangely isn’t even nominated by GG. And even more strangely First Man the award bait movie doesn’t seem get that much buzz so far.

I’m more surprised about the best picture nom than best director thought more likely the other way around because the word superhero is normally a death sentence to any film to get a best pic nom. Best director seems to have more varieties.
I'm so shocked BR got nominated. I expect "If Beale Street Could Talk" to pull off the win.

Kendrick Lamar leads Grammy nominations.

Marvel's Black Panther soundtrack is nominated for 7 Grammy Awards and Ludwig Göransson earned a Grammy Award nomination for the Black Panther: Original Score album.

I figured Black Panther should also get at least a nod in costume design, Ruth E Carter is due.

Roma was nominated for the best foreign movie. It was ineligible for best picture - drama. First Man flopped and that kind of thing often negatively affects awards chances (see Blade Runner 2049 and Steve Jobs as examples).

Had a feeling that the BP soundtrack would get a lot of Grammy nominations as they really like Kendrick Lamar's work and it was actually a really good album.

I hope BP gets a Bafta nod when those are announced. It shows a lot of its influence with foreign nominations.

Black Panther is overperforming in the award season. Congratulate to those who take such pride in this movie. This must be a very great news.

I can see Black Panther surpasses TDK and becomes the most succesful CBM in award season now.

Gotta love the diversity of film nods. Especially for indies starring POC.

Shame that Sorry to Bother You got ignored by the Spirit Awards,

I can't wait for Ryan Coogler and MBJ to reunite in that "Wrong Answer" film. I figure 2019 will be pre-production done for BP with it being filmed in early/mid 2020 for the release in Feb or May 2021.
