That notebook art seema to be concept art for the movie and not just promo.art. it looks great cant wait to get my hands on the art of the.movie book and then the infinity war art book. Iam guessing that last one will be the.most expensive mcu art of movie book and the thickest in terms of page count

I'm definitely going to try and find the art book for this film and get a copy for myself. I feel like this is going to be a lot of peoples' first introduction to the mere concept of Africa having a pre-colonial history that involves distinct and diverse cultures with a variety of interesting and sophisticated art styles, architecture, writing systems, etc., and that excites me very much. Roots was a milestone in that it really pushed slavery and black Americans' connections to Africa into the cultural sphere, and I hope that Black Panther is able to have this similar effect in not just presenting ideas of African modernity and futurism, but also showing off versions of indigenous cultures that existed in the pre-colonial age, extending the narrative further back than just connections related to slavery.

On that note, because my sisters binge on Disney Channel, I wonder what kind of Black Panther promotional material they'll be doing on said channel. From what I've seen of other MCU promo stuff on there, they usually tend to have the more "fun" characters and elements involved to try and sell the film to little kids (primarily girls) -- granted, all three MCU films this year were pretty light and "fun" in tone (and one of them involved Zendaya) so they were easier to sell to kids in that sense -- so I can't necessarily imagine them considering Chadwick as "fun" enough, as much as I like the guy. My bet would be on Letitia Wright making appearances, perhaps together with her on-screen brother to sell the sibling relationship.

Anyone expecting kimoyo to be built-in the suit or in card form like Priest had it?

The whole casino scene reminds me so much of Skyfall.

That’s what it reminds me of! It’s been driving me nuts, because I keep thinking I saw another BP teaser somewhere.

Thanks!

(And now I wish I was good at video editing so I could do a Bond-style recut of the Black Panther trailer(s))

There's a Skyfall scene/reference in Creed.

On the Creed commentary I believe Coogler mentions that as one of his favorite movies.

I just went to see The Last Jedi 3d and what was the first trailer they showed? Black Panther.

Unfortunately not many people where in the screening I was at as the movie was in 3D which meant people where not going to see it but the people there seemed to like the trailer just from looking around the auditorium.

People LOVED the Black Panther trailer where I was at.

However, there was only one concern..

After my Last Jedi screening me and a few others were talking about that and BP. The major criticism was that Michael B. Jordan's character looks more like General Hux/Gleeson level of overacting ham instead of Driver's more subtler sinister Kylo Ren.

I really hope the trailers are misleading about Michael B. Jordan's performance. Surprising to see people at the theater pick up on that. Then again maybe it was Gleeson hammy/underwhelming performance that did that.

I dug the MBJ casting when he was announced, but looking at that footage I have to agree. He just comes off as too one dimensional and unnatural. I'm hoping for the best with the final film.

I'm reminded of Ralph Fiennes' performance as Voldemort in Goblet of Fire which was almost cringe inducing ham. He toned it down in the later films and was much better for it.

We will have to wait and see but so far I'm just indifferent about Jordan's acting.

It almost feels like he is trying to make up for FF.

In FF he was subtle/more human Johnny Storm and got crushed for it. The movie was more of a problem than him, but still. Here it seems like he's REALLY aware that he's in a comicbook movie.

Also the trailer was playing at the theatre hallway so the marketing is gearing up.

I can see where you’re all coming from. I haven’t been blown away by what I’ve seen from him either, but to be fair, we really haven’t seen that much. I’m still confident that he’ll deliver at least a strong performance.

Honestly, as long as the backstory and accompanying ideology is interesting, I couldn't really care too much about the acting as long as it's at least decent. (Besides, I know guys who act more or less like how Jordan comes off as in the trailers, so he doesn't necessarily strike me as unrealistic. Some folks just aren't that deep...) I'm willing to blame it more on just the editing of the trailers themselves; aside from Killmonger, T'Challa and Shuri's dialogue comes off as choppy and unnatural in the more recent TV spots and international trailers, but I know they both sound better than that uncut.

And what little we have seen is dialog pieced together from multiple scenes.

^Exactly which is why I don’t take the dialogue seriously. If it was a longer speech like what we got from T’Chaka in the teaser trailer, then I would question the MBJ’s dialogue. There’s no context to the trailers from any of the actors.

I'm sure Jordan does a well enough job. Dude can act. If there is faults, maybe the writing is the culprit.

by the way did MCU ever confirm the budget for this film? i was guessing no less than 140 million, but no higher than 180 million.

I think another part of it could be making a clear contrast between T'Challa and Erik. Boseman is playing it steely cool as T'Challa, so to have two characters subtle and lowkey, maybe they felt they needed a dose of 'energy' for lack of a better word.

Thats a fair point. However, it will ultimately come down to chemistry and vibe.

As long as the energy feels real and authentic. Great.

If it comes across as hokey...

For those folks saying that Michael B. Jordan is "overacting and hamming it up", please check out Priest's run on Black Panther.

Killmonger has always been over the top and a bit of a ham.
