Black Teen Detained by NYPD for Buying an Expensive Belt

I am confused now, I thought being hipster was being trendy. I am out of touch with today fashion I think.

I've never been into fashion, or trends, or hipsters so I might be wrong.

As I understand it hipsters originally were anti-trendy then they became ironically trendy while denying that was true. Also the word "hipster" has morphed into a larger meaning that I'm no longer sure what it encompasses anymore.

So hipsters are now trendsetters who try not to be trendsetters. They are what they hate most.

That's pretty much everybody who claims they hate society and its materialism. By default you are part of a monolithic group that is the same as the very thing you rally against. You can never win.

Or the goths who want to be non conformist or whatever but end up in a big group of goths just like themselves.

The difference is in claiming to be against any kind of trend or fashion while you help set one.

I may not care what the fashion trend is or where it's going but I'm also not trying to avoid it by dressing in some weird fashion either (and making it popular instead).

He should of took macklemore's advice and gone to the thrift shop ;)

The same thing happened to young woman at Barneys

So it seems if your young and black you might want to avoid buying expensive items from Barneys because you will get arrested.

I doubt that these two would be arrested if they went to Barney's:

or her:

But he probably would be:

And that will be the excuse I think the NYPD could use to get out of this mess. Basically saying "we won't do anything if Jay Z or Beyonce or Nicki Minaj bought expensive stuff at the most expensive stores."

Well Jay Z has some new deal with Barney's and was being pressured to decline the deal and made a statement saying to the effect of "If I judge them by this story then won't I be prejudice against them" or something like that. Kind of a BS excuse if ya ask me, he just wants all the money he's gonna make from the deal

Are cops in civvies always that dumb? Or are they intentionally racist?
"Cops can't have high IQ"?
Maybe we'll hear of Jaden Smith getting arrested for buying genuine Adidas suits on his own, cause young actors can't have that much money when they're of brown skin

It sounds like the cops are just arresting every black person under 30 who buys expensive item in Barney's.

I would of thought more credit card fraud crimes would be committed online rather than though a store these days.

I dont believe in frivolous lawsuits ( I.e.clumsy people dropping burning hot ass coffee in their laps) it's one of the reasons i believe the American judicial system is so fouled up.. but i would SUE THE &^%$ OUTTA THIS PLACE for pulling this if that was me!
of course i wouldnt be spending $300 on a freaking belt either!..Xmen #94 maybe! but not a belt!( that kid would be i wouldnt spend $300 on a comic book!)hehe it's all relative!:cwink:

Court costs aside, I think this is worth a lawsuit. I'd pursue it.

If the gay community wanted to build bridges with the black community, this would be a great place to start. A gay boycott of Barney's would be like half their revenue. :woot:
