'Blade Runner' animated series coming to Adult Swim

A Blade Runner TV series is coming to Adult Swim. The network is set to announce Blade Runner — Black Lotus, 13 half-hour anime-style episodes produced by Sola Digital Arts (Ultraman). Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) will direct all the episodes of the premiere season with Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) on board as a creative producer.

The storyline is being kept under wraps, but the story will take place in 2032 and will include some familiar characters from the Blade Runner universe, a dystopian future where android “Replicants” fulfill various roles. The project will be most directly inspired by producer-director Ridley Scott’s second film in the franchise, Blade Runner 2049.

Those names have my interest.

That's a really prestigious staff to go with the show. Looking forward to this.

Nice. I hope the animation isn’t janky. This is definitely the sort of thing you want to get the visuals right on

CORUS ENTERTAINMENT DEBUTS ITS BIGGEST SLATE OF SPECIALTY SERIES EVER - Corus Entertainment

Two years after its arrival in Canada, Adult Swimcontinues to perform as a Top 20 specialty network* delivering distinctive original animated comedies and live-action programming to a dedicated fan base. This fall, Adult Swim ushers in brand new animated series Teenage Euthanasia, centering around the Fantasy family and their inland Florida funeral home, Tender Endings, and Smiling Friends, an animated take on self-help, in which Smiling Friends Inc. is there to lend a helping hand to any city inhabitant who calls their hotline with their troubling situation. Blade Runner: Black Lotus, an anime series set in the world of the Blade Runner film franchise, is also set to premiere this fall.

I really like the overall look of the show with the city, lighting, etc. but was pretty surprised to see a full CGI series. Was hoping to see 2D anime and not really a fan of the character designs, but I’m still intrigued!

Did not like the music in the trailer.

I dunno, I kinda dig the look and style for Adult Swim. It's got big early 00s vibes back when there was stuff like Animatrix and Linkin Park videos like this:

The animation is pretty good. Reminds me of the recent Ghost in the Shell: SAC.

I agree about the music, it's a horrible choice. Hopefully the series score is more in line with BR.

I also would have preferred 2D animation like they with Blackout, that was terrific. It really captured the vibe and atmosphere of the movies and the book.

Animation reminds me of the Bladerunner game by Westwood Studios back in the day. Hope its as good as that, trailer was great, music was a little eh? but no biggy for a trailer.

Some great voice talent in this too.

Yikes on the music. Hopefully just a case of some staffer not having a clue about the films.

Feels more like Blade Runner than the trailer.

Yep, that's what I also thought. Great game.

Everything looks good, but I do wish they would have gone with a more synth soundtrack. oh well, no biggie.

Looks good, yeah the music doesnt quite fit but everything else looks top notch.
