For the past 4 years I've mostly avoided these conversations with my Trump loving, bible-beating family and haven't posted a single thing on Facebook.

This past week I've been blowing the TL up, starting discussions and making my views known. So far it's led to at least two relatives and multiple friends removing/blocking me and my parents texting me to stop.

It won't change any minds but I regret not doing this sooner.

I do wonder if they themselves are self-aware of their own flip flopping.

Oh they 100% know. The goal is to never say their actual opinion, whatever that may be, it's to say whatever stirs their base.

We all have crap we have to live with, but there are definitely some burdens far bigger then others. If shrugging this burden off your shoulders has made it even a tiny bit better for you, I am glad you were able to do it.

As a GA resident I can tell you that the officers within the Atlanta city limits have a relatively decent reputation, but once you get out of city limits we supposedly have some of the worst in the country.

Really interested to see what more comes from this.

The hearing today was just... I am not surprised at this point, but it still pisses me off and scares me every time.

From what I've been told, 100%. The rural areas that surround Atlanta are kind of "white havens" from the big diverse city and cops view black people as outsiders even though the entire state has a massive black population.

Especially when you go north into Marietta, which is actually more affluent than rural. I've heard more than one black person call it "Scarietta".

The terminology tells you right there: "less lethal" not "non-lethal". Even if it doesn't kill someone it can cause brain damage like this, or permanent vision loss in someone's eye like the reporter who was struck by a rubber bullet.

On top of that these police are militarized so even "less lethal" rounds means they are looking and acting more aggressive which only feeds into the protesters getting aggressive right back at them. Instead of trying to mediate and de-escalate, all this does is make everyone more prone for violence.

The judicial system is not independent from the political realm (said someone who is a lot smarter than I am). Pressure works better than no pressure. No one should be ready to take their foot off the pedal, but I really hope protesters take it upon themselves to weed out people who are in this for their personal gain.
