Blu-Ray Player without using HDMI

I've had a PS3 for a while and just recently bought Iron Man on blu-ray, which is my first blu-ray movie ever seeing.

I popped it in just to see something in glorious HD, but was met with the problem that it didn't look any different than my regular dvds.

My small 19 inch tv is able to output 720, but it is about 4 years old and does not have HDMI ports. Because of this I've been hooking my PS3 up to my tv through component cables.

Could this be the reason I'm not getting proper quality?

Yes, the movies will look better with HDMI. But I think the size of your TV is the main problem. It's really difficult to see a difference in picture quality with a 19" TV.

Anything under 42 inches and you won't see much of a difference. I have my blu-ray player hooked up through my tv through component cables and it looks friggin amazing. I'm outputting in 1080i though. I bought ny tv before 1080p was standard and HDMI was still new.

Well I have a 32" Sharp Aquas outputting at 1080p, hooked up with HDMI and the picture looks amazing. I think anything smaller than 32" is when you have trouble seeing a difference.

I've been looking at getting a 32'' for a while now. Anything bigger than that really won't be able to fit in my bedroom.

Maybe this is the incentive I need to upgrade.

I agree with the others. I have a 47" LG with 1080p and it couldn't be better. An upgrade excuse is always a good thing

I want to get the Mitsubishi 73" DLP 1080p, but the wife won't let me since I already have a nice 55"

i swear, this is why blu-ray will have a slow start. I know it's 'growing' but still.
