I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet. On April 21, Fox looks to finally be releasing all of the X-Men films on Blu-ray.

In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring 'X-Men', 'X2: X-Men United', and 'X-Men: The Last Stand' to Blu-ray on April 21st. All three titles we be delivered as two-disc sets with 1080p AVC video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

No special features have been revealed at this time, but you can expect to see at very least all the extras from the previous special edition DVD releases.

Astute Blu-ray fans will remember that 'X-Men: The Last Stand' has not only been previously released, but was also the first Blu-ray title to be released by Fox back in 2006. It is unknown if this new two-disc set will be an extension of original release, or a completely new encode.

There are also rumors of a Blu-ray trilogy box set.

I really do hope they pile on the extras for all three films.

I'm even dreaming of an extended cut of X3....

GREAT news for superhero fans as 20th Century Fox today confirmed to me that all three X-Men movies will be released on Blu-ray - separately, and as a trilogy box set - on April 21.

This is no doubt part of the promotional push for the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, which is due out on May 9.

The website Blu-ray.com was first to break the news, saying retailers had been given an early alert that X-Men, X2: X-Men United and X-Men 3: The Last Stand would each be released as two-disc sets with 1080p AVC video and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

Fox told me they would issue an official press release when the spec of the discs had been decided. So there's no clue at present what features and extras will be included and whether any of those will be new and exclusive.

X-Men 3 was already released on Blu-ray back in November 2006, six months after the film came out.

It was the first Blu-ray title to be released by the studio but it didn't have much in the way of bonus material. The UK version has two commentaries, a 'trivia track' that displays facts about the comic book characters in a corner of the screen and 11 deleted/alternative scenes (the UK DVD had twice that number!).

Fans have long been campaigning for an extended, alternative cut of the third movie, which was directed by Brett Ratner. A longer version with more substance would more closely match the style of the first two films, which were directed by Bryan Singer.

The running time of The Last Stand - 1hr 44mins - has been criticised as too short to do justice to the multiple storylines and characters in the climactic movie.

Here's hoping that Fox has heard all the criticisms. It would be a wasted opportunity to issue X-Men 3 exactly as it was before; this is the ideal chance to deliver something bigger and better. Extended cuts are fairly common these days - and in this case, there is a strong demand for one.

Amazon's US and UK sites list the April 21 Blu-ray releases. On Amazon.com each of the three films is $24.49 and the trilogy box set is priced at $55.99. At Amazon.co.uk the three films and trilogy set are listed but with no prices as yet.

I had a quick question about blu-ray? I have a sony blu-ray player and 40-inch hdtv (i luv my baby tv)......my friend doesn't have an hdtv and wanted to know if blu-ray was compatible with a regular like tv...they are aren't they......I'm not a big tech person (in fact I'm usually the one that buys something and has to have someone help me set it up)...so if if someone could help clarify for me?.....I just felt like telling him...whats the point?

I think you can still have a blu-ray player and have it play on a regular tv. I'm sure someone else can explain it (or will have the correct answer.. :p )

I'm not as adept at remembering details, etc but which ones of those features are new to the blu-ray editions...I'm more interested in X-men and X2.

yes BR players can be used on an SDTV but it would be a complete waste as you would only be able to get a maximum of 480p and wont be able to view the films in HD. You are better off just getting the DVD versions

True but with studios putting more content in Blu-ray compared to regular dvd's one can't fault anyone for opting to go with Blu-ray. That said, if you're gonna get a blu-ray player...might as well buy the Hi def tv as well...easier said than done though for many people

X1 bloopers? that sounds new. but where are the bloopers from X2? then again, X3 in its entirety was a blooper reel so I can enjoy that.

I imagine the bloopers in X-men is the same one they had in the original release, the one with Spidey especially considering the featurette is named "Easter Eggs: Bloopers"

I'd be happy to be proven wrong though...

Great now I can watch two great films and have my hopes and dreams shattered all over again by the third...all in HD!

in case im a moron, can someone please tell me if i read correctly:

xmen 1: 23 extended scenes!

xmen 2: 7 deleted scenes.......why are they on disc two? i want it IN the movie!

xmen 3: im guessing 26 deleted scenes.

i wanna know, are these scenes gonna be included in the movie? or are they just things we can watch in a menu or something? cuz i sooooo want them within the movie like XMEN 1.5

Hmm, good question and Im not sure. I sure hope that most if not all of those special features are in HD and not just SD stuff taken straight from the DVD releases

That's a little melodramatic. You can buy the films separately, so you are not being forced to see the third one.

Of course not X-Maniac, I was kidding. I sometimes wonder what's forcing you to respond to nearly every negative comment about The Last Stand.

I didn't know you were kidding. I thought you were under the impression the Blu-ray set was only a trilogy set.

^ Ha ha, I know. I'm at a bit of a loss for words? What happened exactly? To put us back on topic, I certainly hope the schematics offered by Havok are true in regards to the discs...I'm looking forward to something new being brought to the table.
