Xbox 360 is suddenly lighting up retail tills in Japan. Pre-orders began for the company’s Blue Dragon bundle yesterday with many retailers reporting a sell-out.

The special edition, of which there are about 10,000 units, sold out almost immediately, with the further 90,000 standard units selling fast. Next-Gen spoke to a number of retailers in Tokyo who reported brisk sales or sell-outs of allocations.

The bundle includes an Xbox 360 core system with Blue Dragon as well as other bundled games for a bargain-basement 29,800 yen. The special edition features various freebies including a faceplate.

This bundle is a last desperate gamble by Mirosoft to break the Japanese market, whch has hitherto shown little or no inclination to be swayed. But Blue Dragon has been winning plaudits across Japan. Expected severe shortages of PS3 will only adding to the allure of this bundle.

Already selling out/selling fast? Mistwalker may just break Japan afterall. I can't wait for this game to hit Stateside! :woot:

That's good to hear. I'm really believing Blue Dragon will be the first good MSJapan game, and I think the Japanese people will react to it well.

So about 15 copies were preordered?
:p

A little more than 15, I'd say.

Actually, it's been confirmed that about 100k has been sold. This happened in the period of 5 minutes as far as I know or at least the 10k sold in a period of 5 minutes.

See, it says that the 10k sold almost immediately while the 90k was selling very well, from the original article, it reported that [basically] every unit had sold out (this is the first pre-order day).

Last ditch effort. Gotta love how awesome those work.

Umm...I believe by "last ditch effort" he's referring to Microsoft bundling the XBOX360 with "Blue Dragon"...which means it has a lot to do with "Blue Dragon"...

We should do a thread for all the people who like to post combinations of "wow' and "just". So people can use it all they want in there.

I don't care about Japan, but this seems like nothing short of a miracle for Microsoft.

Somebody go give this thing its own thread.

Sony sony sony.... :down
Ok, here's a new one: with Sony's announcements today they've issued a titled "Next-generation Console Comparison Fact Sheet," (downloadable here [DOC]) so let's see some facts. First up, were you aware that to use your Xbox 360 Core system you're required to buy the 20GB drive add-on, an HD DVD drive, a wireless controller, and an Xbox Live sub? We weren't either. But hey, it says right there, "requires users to buy" and this is, in fact, a "fact sheet." Of course, none of that's actually true, and what's more, were one to use the Xbox 360 Premium console pack in that chart instead of the Core pack, the total would be $399 for a console with that very same hard drive, wireless controller, and Xbox Live Silver subscription (which provides access to everything but multiplayer) -- remember, kids, an HD DVD drive is not required to do anything but watch high def movies -- it has nothing to do with high def gaming. We hear Microsoft ain't too happy about this chart either and is preparing certain legal action, namely because it could be misleading to otherwise unwitting retail employees selling customers game consoles this holiday season. Go figure.

P.S. -In the interest of fairness, it's also worth pointing out the Wii browser is what will cost you after the first 6 months -- not their online service. What's more, if you download the browser before June of 2007, it's straight up free. Otherwise, Nintendo hasn't yet announced details of the cost of their online service so far as we know. Another nice one, Sony.

P.P.S. -We just confirmed with Microsoft that another Sony claim -- that you need a memory unit or a hard drive to use the WiFi adapter -- is also false. You can grab a Core pack with no memory card and plug in a WiFi adapter and get on your home network. Sheez Sony, did we mention we moonlight as fact checkers?
