Blumhouse to Remake Black Christmas

I havent watched the first remake or original, but arent both pretty damn gruesome?

In terms of violence, the original might be able to get away with a PG-13 today. It doesn't show a lot. It earns its R through the language used during the obscene phone calls the killer makes.

The 2006 film took a messier approach.

You know, this movie, even though it’s very, very loosely based on Black Christmas, I’d say the plot is extremely different. It’s more inspired by the feeling that Black Christmas made me feel watching it, this idea of misogyny always being out there and never totally eradicable. So that was the jumping-off point for how I came up with this plot. I’d compare it more to how Luca Guadagnino remade Suspiria than to a straight-ahead remake.

Director Sophia Takal calls her 'Black Christmas' remake a 'fiercely feminist film'

I don’t really understand why they’re using the name. Well I do. The IP value. But I think it does this film a disservice, as an original name, or at the very least something like Black Christmas 2019 or whatever, will have people be less critical having divulged so far from the original that it’s only in name only.
