I was looking back at my Batman DVD collection and was just wondering if Bob Kane were still alive today, what would be his favourite version of Batman being closest to his original vision?

Batman the Movie (1966)
Batman (1989)
Batman Returns (1992)
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993)
Batman Forever (1995)
Batman & Robin (1997)
Batman Begins (2005)
The Dark Knight (2008)

I'll go ahead and say Batman '89. It's a mix of film noir and 1930's style Batman which is what his vision pretty much was, I think?

I would say Mask of the Phantasm... It seems like it has most of the elements Kane included in the first Batman stories.

Too bad he died a year after B&R release.. :csad:

I'm sure he would have loved BB & TDK.

Wasn't Forever his favorite? I believe I saw a documentary where his wife said how that was his favorite outta the Batman movies he saw due to it being more to his vision of the character and Gotham, etc.

I believe he liked Val Kilmer as Batman/Bruce

Bob Kane's favorite movie was whatever film was in production at the time.

What Bathead said, but looking back on it, I would say probably Batman 89 would have been his favorite since to me its captures the original Batman comics that he created. Murdering Batman and all :D

You mean whichever one was going to profit from at the time, at least as far as I can put my Finger on it...:cwink:

Hehehe you said Finger. Honestly I believe Bill Finger has more credit with Batman than Bob Kane. True, Kane come up with the name, but Finger did everything else, he was the writer. Kane was just more lucky. And yeah, I believe Bob Kane liked everything with the "Bat" prefix on it. I he was alive, he would love TDK just because it´s Batman.

They did great job with the character, though. I just think Bill deserved equal or even more credit.

I don't really care about Kane's vision as much as I care about Finger's....After seeing what his original version of Batman would've looked like without Finger, I realized that I think Kane was kind of a jerk for taking all the credit.

To give those who don't know Kane's original drawing of the character, it essentially looks like Mr. Incredible with a batman cape

Good to see people aren't just voting The Dark Knight without even reading the thread title.

Batman '89. It's a film noir peice of pulp fiction. OTT bad guys and shadowy heroes.

Well, although to acertain extent you're right, Kane could have given credit where credit was due, however, consider that what Kane did was common practice back then, and he was but a product of his times. Having said that, he could have done the right thing long before he passed.

I agree with thr 1st guy... for those who think that BB & TDK would be his fav. or are closer to his vision... THINK AGAIN.

that's more like F. Miller's batman year one vision of the character OR SOMETHING.

kane's ideas were much darker & more street... crime ridden alleyways FILM NOIR etc. much more crime fiction & pulp inspired than TDK ever could have hoped to be.

Batman 89 all the way

I actuallt think Kane said he actually regret not having Finger's credit. Didn't some agreement fall through? I don't know, check wikipedia or something.

But I do think B89 would of been his favorite. Just that film noir approach is what Kane had in mind for the comics. He even commented on how Gotham was just like how he created it. He loved Jack as The Joker or his casting. But if he were alive today it would be interesting to see what he thought of TDK. Personally, I think he would of thought of it as too complex. Anybody agree?

Raise The Finger dammit!

No. I don't agree, Anytime he was asked , whatever was the current film, is the one he loved. In other words, all he cared about was that any one of those movies, no matter how Baman was presented, he made a ton of cash.

That´s what I thought whe I watch any interview with him on youtube.

you make him out to be a cash ****e! I am sorry, but his vision was B'89.... if he bought into the hype during the making of each film, that's one thing... the man still had his preferences....

he liked Kilmer as Batman (he wasn't a bad Batman @ all), not my fav. but whatever...

I think he liked Batman 89 best because it was full of style & that's closest to the early Batman (the Batman he created)

You mean he and Finger.:p

who cares

apparently bob kane's favorite batman was val kilmer

apparently jerry robinson liked heath better than jack nicholson

apparently tim burton thought the nolan films were "closer to the character" or something like that

it's meaningless
