Bong Joon-ho‘s Monster Movie 'Okja' with Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano

The little CGI we saw looks pretty damn good and I like the cast, but I really hope the political commentary doesn't turn me off.

Excuse me if I find someone with "Kaiju" in their screen name somehow being against political commentary in films to be more than slightly humorous.

Edit, I didn't notice but this was my 16000th post.

I wouldn't say I'm against it, but when I'm watching a monster movie the last thing I look forward to is political commentary unless it's blatantly obvious. It all depends on how it's handled honestly.

Well looks Like Im going to need to put this on my Netflix watch list

My point is that when it comes to Japanese Kaiju movies in particular, political commentary was baked in and largely the point from the very beginning.

Steven Yeun's name should be on that poster too. *cough*

Trailer is out but can't post due to swearing. Looks fun.

Good trailer.

@ladystoneheart - You might want to remove the video. No swearing on the Hype!

Netflix and Cannes, really just French culture as a whole, have been butting heads. Cannes is changing its rules to more or less exclude Netflix films from competition because they do not commit to giving their films proper theatrical releases.

This bizarrely came to a head with Okja. Reports are coming in that the whole crowd began loudly heckling the Netflix logo at the beginning and the film had to be stopped. It was later restarted.

Cannes is nuts. Hopefully though Netflix can maybe explore more of the type of model that Amazon uses. It treats its movies like real movies and their films have had much more prestige and awards and visibility because of it.

I thought it would be okay since the teaser is in here and there's swearing in that too?
