This year marks the 20th anniversary of the hit movie, "Boogie Nights", directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring (Marky) Mark Wahlberg, Burt Reynolds, Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, Julianne Moore and Heather Graham. The story is about how adult film director Jack Horner discovers a young busboy named Eddie Adams, who becomes Dirk Diggler and takes the porn industry by storm. Alongside Dirk and Jack are other actors/friends, Reed Rothchild, Buck Swope, Amber Waves and Rollergirl.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but this might actually be my favorite PTA movie.

Ricky Springfield! HE'S A BUDDY OF MINE!

This and There Will Be Blood are PTA's finest works. I love this film.

Burt Reynolds is a nut for disliking this like he does. It's one of the few films on his resume that i like. (Smokey and the bandit, deliverance and the original longest yard too).

You just knew right off the bat that PTA was some one special here.

This is closely behind There Will Be Blood which is a masterpiece. Then he went and made Magnolia which is what I always call the greatest student film of all time.

Great movie. So jealous that PTA was so young when he delivered this.

I had no idea that Reynolds didn't like the movie.

From my understanding, wasn't Reynolds just kind of a pain in the ass all throughout filming?

Just found this very long, in-depth interview about the making of the movie, but I'll have to wait until after work to read it. It goes into the whole Burt vs PTA thing (apparently Burt thought PTA was full of himself).

EDIT: Actually, I won't link it because I'm not sure if there's swearing. Just Google "Grantland - Boogie Nights".

Burt also tried to put Thomas Jane in a headlock. lol

Dicaprio regrets turning down this role.

This has one of the best PTA commentaries.

I can't really imagine DiCaprio in this role. Wahlberg isn't my favorite, but I think this was spot on casting.

Wahlberg owned that s**t.

It pretty much made him a permanent fixture in Hollywood overnight.

I'm reading it now:

Lawd.

We put Tatum O’Neal on tape for Roller Girl. She gave a terrific audition and I think that she may have done something really brave with Paul. That tape was top secret, you know what I mean?

Yeah, I can't imagine this working quite as well with Leo in the role. Wahlberg killed it.

Only complaint I have was this song was not featured in the film.

It's still a national tragedy, Mark Wahlberg didn't sing "You Got the Touch" in a Transformers movie.

If ya'll had to choose:

Boogie Nights or There Will Be Blood?

As much as I loved Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood, IMO it's one of those movies where I'll only need to watch it once and be good. Boogie Nights, on the other hand, is one of those movies where any time it's on TV I'll watch it. So I'd have to go with Boogie Nights.
