Borat anyone?

Him getting an Oscar nod would be weird, because the categories really don't fit for this type of movie, the only one I can see is writing, but then again, for what, though there is a screenplay for some of the scenes, most of it is just ad lib.

Acting is obviously out of the question, because even though he is in a role, it's not scripted so . . maybe Best Documentary? :D

I never said that. Sorry if i don't think this guy is hilarious!

maybe i should walk around and say some of thie stuff he's doing.

I could go around singing throw the jew the the hole. And refer to woman as prostitudes and ****es? And condemn gay people.

I told you that you wouldn't get it.

It's social satire...He is making a statement against bigotry by using a naive character to provoke honest reactions from people. Borat is sincere is his statements, that's what makes him work. He is not a bad man, he is just the product of backward thinking. His bigotry and mysoginism is honest and frank...he doesn't know any better. With that character he can better paint a picture of the hypocrisy of western society.

and he learns his lesson that jews aren't what he thinks they are and he becomes Christian and crucifies people .....hey its a start!

No doubt he is amazingly talented. He goes into those characters and really becomes them and he doesn't hold back. He came onto the Howard Stern show recently as Borat and was just hilarious and didn't skip a beat.

Dam, I want to see that =( i was wonderin if he went on the stern show.

Yeah. This was hilarious. I loved every minute of it.

This is why the movie industry still is fascinating... Who´d have guessed a subversive "offensive" comedy would make more money than two family movies opening the same weekend... And again is proof of how stupid Fox is... They had gold in their hands and if it wasn´t for the great spontaneous buzz on the movie, they would have killed it.

Exactly.

I know its weird to say this in a movie like BORAT, but sascha did show some range. The part after the fight and the scenes that followed after, were acted awesomely. I know, I know its weird, but when he looked at the camera talking about his losses you can feel for him. Wait, there more. when he found out pam wasnt a virgin....that was well acted.

I wouldn't give him an oscar. But, he does have my respect and thats like and oscar

It's not strange, other genres require every bit as much talent as drama does. It's just the genre that the pretentious academy that favors overly drawn out, sappy borefests chooses to place on a pedestal.

The movie was hilarious, he's definitely the next big thing in comedy.

Borat: Bigger Than Santa Clause!
Source: Box Office Mojo, Edward Douglas November 5, 2006

The ComingSoon.net Box Office Report has been updated with studio estimates for the weekend. Be sure to check back on Monday for the final figures based on actual box office.

This weekend, the guy bringing presents wasn't wearing a red suit, he was wearing a gray one, as Sacha Baron Cohen's acclaimed comedy Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan took on two new family films for a surprising victory as the king of the box office with an estimated opening weekend take of $26.4 million!

That amount wouldn't be nearly as impressive, if not for the fact that the comedy opened in almost a third as many theatres as the other two new wide releases, after a controversial decision by distributor 20th Century Fox to cut back its opening weekend release to 837 theatres. As of Friday, it looked like "Borat" would surpass Michael Moore's 2004 documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 as the highest per theatre average for a film opening wide in less than 1,000 theatres. Actually, "Borat's" stunning per-theatre average of $31,511 (estimated) is the third highest per theatre average for a wide release EVER, just behind the summer hit Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and the original Spider-Man. It averaged more per theatre than Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith just to give some idea how huge this movie is. 20th Century Fox plans on expanding the movie into over 2,200 theatres next weekend, although after such a huge opening, one can expect that number will increase by Friday.

^ Yeah, that's just awesome. Go Borat.

It would have been huge if the original number of theaters had been kept. I heard a lot of poeple wanted to see it and couldn't due to limited availability and sell outs.

This could work out to the movies benifit, most people do not know that this movie is in a limited release, but what they do know is it was sold out when they tried to see it, and this is what they will tell their friends which will enhance it's word of mouth worthiness.

Some comfort :yay:, but I've got to say, Fox never seem to realise when they have a potential hot property on their hands. They could be a lot more successful as a company if they replaced some of their top decision makers.

I nearly wet myself in the theater watching this movie. It was really THAT funny.
I dont think Fox's strategy was all that dumb. Not a lot of people knew about Borat. They cover themselves by limiting the opening theater count in case it does poorly, but when, and it did, blow up big, gets great reviews, and has unbelievable word of mouth. That creates demand. Then they expand the supply of theaters showing it.

The only downside to all this is all of the tool fratboys who are going to be running around quoting the movie like it's Napoleon Dynamite of Chapelle's Show

But they are also pissing off alot of people who wanted to see it opening day and are unable too. But like always they are afraid of taking a risk even though I don't see much rish considering all of these insanely positive reviews. And you don't have to worry about me quoting it much I went through that a few years ago I have been a fan since he first started showing up on HBO.

Very Nyyyce, I like

You make dirty hands on my pamela! lmao

everything i hoped for.

Borat really isn't as unknown as many people think....Sacha Cohen has a pretty big following. I'd say it's inline with something like Tenacious D.

Like I said, he's big in the UK, my cuz from London sent me clips of him back in 02 or 03 right before HBO picked up Da Ali G Show, I hyped him for a while and no one cared. My friends all rented In da house thinking it was season 1 and they never listened to me again.

i've been a fan of borat since 'da ali g show'... funnily enough, i hated all his other characters, but i freaking loved borat, and this movie might be the funniest thing i've ever seen... but i kind of want it to fail, and stay underground, so i don't have to bear witness to a bunch of damned 12 year olds running around going "is nice!" and "i like sex!" 800 times a day.

they ruined napoleon dynamite for me, and made "i'm rick james, *****" not be funny anymore... i don't want them effing with borat, too. i like it being still somewhat underground.

^It's already mainstream with the glowing reviews it got. Now every person on Earth will want to see it. People are gonna be dressing like Borat, asking him to come to comedy functions, he'll be parodied on shows and movies, etc.

I thought this movie was absolutely hilarious, but I think it could have been even funnier with less scripted stuff and more just going around screwing with people. Overall, awesome movie. I gotta say, of all the scripted stuff, the Running of the Jew may have been my favorite part.
